USA car hire - license paper counterpart
Discussion
The wife and I arrived in San Francisco yesterday, we've booked a Mustang for 2 days to drive to Vegas through Yosemite in a couple of days time.
The only thing is I didn't think to bring my paper counterpart to my licence, am I completely screwed?
When people have hired cars in the USA have you been asked to produce both parts?
The wife is keen to talk to the hire company, but I'm thinking of just chancing it and hoping that they don't ask for it (fingers crossed).

I've presented the card portion no problem. I guess in places that deal with more brits like Orlando there could be issues.
Brazen it out or get a friend/relative to send you a PDF of the counterpart if you're paranoid.
Talking to them is only going to highlight that a problem possibly exists.
If they think you require it then you require it- if they don't know then informing them is only going to lead to them knowing you require it. Result= you're fked either way.

A few years ago some friends went to Miami to start a fly drive , got a phone all on the Friday night they flew , any chance of getting our driving licences sent over ASAP ?
Went over to their house , picked up both licences , down to DHL on the Saturday morning , 11.00 am Tuesday morning they arrived at their hotel.
£95 for the trouble.
Funnily enough they were staying in Miami till Tuesday morning anyway , and the parking fees would have been $100.
After the initial panic , they chilled out knowing they couldn't drive anywhere anyway.

I forgot to take paper part for our honeymoon in California, picking up car in San Francisco after a few days in the city. Had it couriered at huge expense. Never got asked for it. But did mention it was our honeymoon and we got upgraded to a Lincoln Town Car. Terrible car, but the last proper V8 barge they still build and and to be praised for that if nothing else!
I haven't been asked for mine, but the DVLA do have a premium rate licence checking service that they might be able to access (I know premium rate can't be dailed directly from the US but they might have a dial-through service if they are a franchise/agent). I used it recently when signing up for the "Hertz 24/7" service - basically you speak to the DVLA employee who takes your name/address/DOB, then they ask you permission to disclose your licence details to the other person, then the agent asks the DVLA employee if you have a clean/valid licence and they say yes/no.
US licences do not have a separate paper portion. The plastic photo card IS your licence. Therefore, nobody at an American car hire firm will ever ask for the paper part because they have no idea such a thing even exists.
Photo card will be enough. Don't bother mentioning the paper part because they'll have no idea what you're on about.
