Life saved by seatbelts twice - I stick mine (and my kids) on before moving millimetre.

If you have an airbag and are NOT wearing a seat belt, it is highly likely that the airbag itself will kill you, even if the accident doesn't!

This is part of the reason a Land Rover Defender can't have airbags - the driver is too close to the steering wheel for the belt to be able to keep them clear of the debris as the steering wheel cover explodes (literally)

A lot of cars now also have a two-stage airbag, measured vi a the seat runners - if you have it further forward than a certain point, the airbag is only partially inflated.

Serious stuff and, as I said, an impact that would just result in some 'fixable' injuries without an airbag or seatbelt, will quite likely kill you, WITH an airbag and no seat belt.

I will not let anyone travel in my car without one - and that includes in the back: Don't want to be killed by them head-butting me from behind, either thanks!

PS. I won't even carry an unrestrained dog in the car, for exactly that reason!

Real men don't wear seatbelts. It is a sign of manliness. Only the weak and womenfolk wear them.

Obviously, the men who genuinely think like this all share the same common trait: low IQ.

You'd have a low IQ too, if you kept headbutting steering wheels and windscreens. I suspect that's why they have deep-set eyes and prominent foreheads.

Or is that Klingons?

The only people that are exempt are multi drop/stop drivers providing they stop more than a certain amounts of times a day (more than 30 stops springs to mind but that might be wrong)
Or if you are medicaly exempt.

And those whose vehicle was built without seatbelts as standard (before they where made compulsory IIRC 1965?)

However if you retro fit belts they must be worn teacher

With a name like that...
And that's exactly how the username came about, my uncle nicknamed me Crashy McSmashy. In my younger days I was completely mad, flat out everywhere, wrecked every car I owned. Take from that what you will but these days, I've grown up a lot, just potter about now, enjoy the odd weekend at the rally school. Time and a place, but ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEATBELT! No excuse!

It sounds bizarre but I feel naked without one. Wearing a seatbelt also saved me some serious injuries when the back of my car was stoved in by a dozy bint.

I once had an argument with my son refusing to wear his belt in the back, taking it off when I started moving etc. I hit the brakes at approx 5mph and he slammed into the back of the front seat - I was shocked at how hard he hit. He never tried that argument again smile

I remember reading that taxi drivers aren't legally obligated to wear theirs, presumably because they have to get in and out of their cars so much.
I don't think that stopping in the middle of the road with your hazards on and blasting your horn until the fare open the door counts as exiting and entering a vehicle

I always wear a seatbelt and always wera a cycle helmet.

The tinfoil hat brigade who claim that wearing both is more dangerous do make me dispair slightly at the stupidity of some of the human race.

When you are on a coach and the driver is delusional about the fact that he or she are operating an aircraft.

Modern cars don't let you go anywhere without a seatbelt unless your happy with some seriously annoying noise!

I might go for a short journey at low speeds without me belt, but having been in a high speed crash I know how important they are.

I also tell off the missus for putting her legs on the dash (with airbag). She's thinks I'm being pedantic but she's the one who will break her legs in an accident and the airbag fires. I'll be the one pushing round on her wheelchair!!

If they think their coach is an aircraft then they have a right to be delusional smile

I'm 40+ so my Dad never wore one and I grew up not wearing one - a lot of our old cars didn't even have them fitted.

But since I've been driving it's been the law to wear one so I always have.

I don't feel safe not wearing one - but I know how I drive. wink

It's a bit weird really - I'd rather be thrown completely clear in a bike crash, and yet in a car I never go without a seatbelt...

Can't imagine why you'd not.
Still, it's about time someone turned up and told the story of this bloke they know who's brother had a crash and was thrown clear and survived and the medics said that not wearing a belt saved him so they never wear one 'cos it's safer.
