It even looks heavy. Very little movement underneath the driver. Boring if you ask me. If its mega quick and not that involving then that really does make it pointless.
Yup, the lap looked pretty ugly tbh, with the biggest problem being the tyres. A lot of time left in that, nowhere near committed over flugplatz or foxhole, which as I said is probably tyres. On another note, if Dom Jolly has lost his phone I think its been found, and since when did Porsche think it was a good idea to use a bus size steering wheel?!
I love seeing a car being driven on the limit, which is good news because I think there is plenty of time left in that one. That video looks very rushed out, either because of Frankfurt or the P1 is about to toast its ass....lets see!
Why bother with the martini decals on the car. If this is to be impressive this should be sold as the first road car which can do a sub 7 minute lap. these stickers makes me wonder how close is this car to the one you buy?
are the seats the same ? is there a roll cage? are the doors as heavy? have carpets been removed? are the tyres exactly what is being sold or just road legal tyres?
I personally going sub severn seconds is blistering considering how slow the Ferrari F60 (Enzo) is in comparison

And they weren't really pushing !
There's at least 5-10secs there if they went all out - but the last thing Porsche want is a crashed 918 at the Ring for pre launch PR.
I love the car - beautiful - esp in Martini white
Sandbagging perhaps, subject to what the P1 delivers? There's at least 5-10secs there if they went all out - but the last thing Porsche want is a crashed 918 at the Ring for pre launch PR.

Maybe Porsche havent played their best ahnd yet with this car!
Still, a very impressive lap, nice control and very smooth (2 things I lack on track days!!!)
Did the Mclaren F1 ever record a ring lap?

Those stickers are an optional extra, and the car which broke the record is we're told a car you can buy. It's the 918 + optional Weissach pack (which includes the "stickers"). The package has weight savings of I think 40 odd KG over "stock".are the seats the same ? is there a roll cage? are the doors as heavy? have carpets been removed? are the tyres exactly what is being sold or just road legal tyres?

If they're saying that the road tyre advancements make a big difference over the Carerra GT I'd really now like to see a GT with the new Michelins do a lap

Which you can be sure the LaFerrari won't be.http://jalopnik.com/5760248/how-ferrari-spins

We've talked about this a great deal and to my knowledge there are no credible times. There is a time quoted somewhere (wikipedia maybe) but I believe it is utter rubbish.
Given current F1 values it seems unlikely there will ever be a time set.

Agree. It makes me want to see a lot of cars retested to put everything into better perspective. If they're saying that the road tyre advancements make a big difference over the Carerra GT I'd really now like to see a GT with the new Michelins do a lap

I thought the relevance was down to how narrow and bumpy the track is, so more like a B road than a race circuit. They couldn't do a proper time in an F1 car there for example.
It's not that bumpy. A don't think an F1 car on Monaco suspension settings would struggle. I think the real reason modern F1 car hasn't set a time is the risk to reward ratio. There would be no real point to it and it'd be pretty dangerous.I think 7 minutes in a road car is astonishing. I think this is only the first of a couple we're going to see in quick succession though. McLaren are going to do absolutely everything they can to beat that time.

Quite a bit of understeer...didn't look like much fun to drive.
Very, very fast though. Over 300km/h to Aremberg.
Massive understeer - at one point I was questioning why they had geared the steering so low and then the penny dropped.Very, very fast though. Over 300km/h to Aremberg.
Nice to (still) see a key dangling from the fascia though!

Apparently the McLaren P1 did a 7.04 http://www.autoblog.com/2013/09/03/mclaren-p1-7-04...
Although far from confirmed, rumor has it that the P1 – which was caught just a couple of weeks ago lapping the Nordschleife – has clocked a lap time of 7:04, which would make it the fastest street-legal production car ever to round the famous German circuit. But McLaren hasn't confirmed the time, and it likely won't.
Why not, you ask? Because it's too slow.
