That's pretty similar to UK prices (1.75 E = ~£1.45ppl). No point in moaning about a few pence on a litre of fuel when you choose to own a car that averages 15mpg!

Fuel is more expensive at motorway service stations, isn't it ?

It is also cheaper in Austria than Germany.
I always fill up in Austria before visiting Germany.

I think some of that price issue might also be one of rip off exchange rates. The price certainly seems higher than that at an exchange rate of less than 1.15 Euros to the pound which was the rate which I paid here for the cash which I used to pay for fuel to stop my debit card going over drawn and I don't think that rate was much different in the case of debit card transactions. No surprise that the banks then rip everyone off at a rate of 1.30 + euros to the pound when they buy euros. In general if you want to have fun on the autobahns a 15 mpg average fuel consumption figure will be the likely result anyway regardless of the type of car.Interestingly the price of super unleaded in Austria is less at around 1.45 euros/litre with queues at the pumps near the border to match.

That's what I found but that's not a lot of use when you're running a return trip to Austria from the uk because you can't get to Austria without first crossing Germany. It's not worth the risk of running the tank/s low before getting there just to save a few bob at the end of the run and filling up in Austria before leaving doesn't count for much over the course of the return run.

I always pay when abroad using an load free credit card (Post Office Platinum, Nationwide Select) where you don't end up paying ~3% to the banks.

And fuel is always cheaper in Belgium. smile
