Corroded radiator and resulting coolant leak led to overheating, despite which coolant level in reservoir remained at max. New radiator and several flushes later, cooling system gets over-pressurised as if head gasket problem. No signs of coolant in oil (dipstick shows clean oil and no mayonnaise on underside of oil filler cap). Engine starts and runs fine, with no tell-tale, failed head gasket misfire on start up. But cabin heater only partially working.

Tried K-Seal without success. Another flush, then Wondarweld in just water (no antifreeze). Drove about 25 miles today without overheating, coolant frothing out of pressure cap when I got home, though temp gauge in normal zone. Mechanic I trust suggests head gasket problem and/or cracked head due to original overheating. Not a clue what to do next.

HELP PLEASE.

Regards from Shrewsbury.

Sniff test, pressure test, compression test.

A sniff test is a way of detecting exhaust gas in the cooling system.
It does sound like a head gasket or cracked head. The symptoms can vary from car to car, I've known cars to carry on for weeks with failed head gaskets and no other signs than a bit if pressure in the cooling system.
