Most of the responses seem to be answering "Which torquey car for £20k?"
As the thread title is "Which car to replace the thrill of a motorbike?" I didn't interpret the answer to be a highly refined mainstream manufacturer performance saloon or roadster. It's probably just me taking the thread title too literally though.
The Caterham suggestions above are more what I was thinking when I saw the thread title - something raw and involving, but could be driven to work and back.
Sometimes you have to read more than just the thread title. From the OP:As the thread title is "Which car to replace the thrill of a motorbike?" I didn't interpret the answer to be a highly refined mainstream manufacturer performance saloon or roadster. It's probably just me taking the thread title too literally though.

1) Torque, oh man I love the torque. Have I mentioned torque? I want it to pull from low down, high up etc
Torque isn't something I associate with bikes. I'm not the OP though, and it was number one on his list. It might help to know what sort of bike it was.
FWIW the AJP8 has a very broad delivery. It pulls well low down, mid range and up to 7500rpm. It runs a bit rough low below 1500rpm but is razor sharp. I can't think of a many engines as flexible yet exciting to use.
I also travel with wife and 2 toddlers, have driven half an hour with 4 adults wedged in and tucked £525 worth of overfilled Costco trolley load in to the boot, so it's actually usable too.
Lastly, whilst the running costs are commersurate with the performance the car itself will not lose money... always worth considering...

I do agree with what's been said no car can compete with a bike for an adrenaline rush but when I had my AJP8 quite a few people said it sounded like a motorbike before they actually saw what it was...that's a start at least then!996 Turbo.

1) speed & acceleration is a tick in the box
2) gadgets- maybe, if you get the sat nav and other stuff
3) the tiptronic isn't too shabby
4) you will stare at it just as much as you would sit in the garage listening to your bike tick itself cool after a ride
