Infiniti FX

I have just sold the family car and on the lookout for a replacement. I have the opportunity to buy an Infiniti FX 5.0 for a very reasonable price. Does anyone run one on here?
Your ownership experiences would be helpful before I jump in with both feet!

It's a pretty rare car.

Might be worth searching some US sites for some reviews or check out the Nissan Murano to get a jist of what to expect?

I had one for a month in the US. Quite heavy on fuel, good autobox. I liked the elevated driving position and sort of car like handling. Electric hatch was useful and it was very easy to do distances. I have seen a few here in the uk and still quite like the look of them. It's quit3 refined to the point of being a bit dull, steering as you'd expect. Swallowed my pushbike without remiving wheels but I did have to fold the seats.

Struggling to remember specifics but feel free to ask.

Thanks, I appreciate it's a left field choice but having just sold a Subaru Tribeca I am ok with buying another slightly unusual car providing it proves to be reliable.

I want another petrol engined SUV type car that's no more than 3 years old for around 20k but that's a hard ask in today's market given the desire for most buyers to own a diesel!

I used to see one fairly regularly. It looked great and was a welcome change in a sea of X5s.

Thanks, I have to admit I do like the quirky looks and they do go well for a big heavy car, the noise of the big V8 will be a bonus whilst I ferry the family around!

If there's one thing that I would think is a given its reliability with the brand. I have worked out my fuel consumption to be 22 mpg av although this was mainly urban and being a hire car it wasn't treated with much respect!

Thanks Yonex, 22mpg would be acceptable given the car will be used for holidays and weekends only.

The one thing that concerns me is that after 4 years in the UK market, Infiniti do not have a formal used car warranty scheme. Given the complexity of the cars electronics and the list price of nearly £60k new, it would have been nice to have the peace of mind to put the car into an insured warranty scheme along the lines of its competitors.

I guess. But it felt solid enough and I am guessing most of the sensors and electronics are pretty general to the group. If it's a bargain then I wouldn't worry too much. A bit of digging on the web and I am sure you will find most sensors etc are common and the V8, sub 13 sec 0-100 is quite amusing. Just looked at the numbers and never realized it was almost 400hp, it did go pretty well lol. Depends on the purchase price but I would say you are onto a winner either way.

Couple of my co-workers got to drive one once, said it was horrendously scary how fast such a big car could go, and they had an absolute hoot in it. I've not driven it myself though, so this is just third hand experience. :P

No my new one isn't the Saxton car although it does look very nice. I have bought one privately.

I think the Tribeca is one of the most underrated cars around just ugly and thirsty as well.

If you are not going to use it daily keep an eye on the battery, as mine goes flat if its not been used for three days, mine is a 3.0d 2012, now with 25k and only 1k in the last 4 months, other than that it's a great car.

I've driven one. It actually feels more powerful than it is (which is a good thing). You'd expect a bit short of 400bhp in an SUV to be brisk but not fast, in the FX50S the engine properly hammers it along when pushed. Interior a bit too full of plastic and iirc it doesn't have a lot of space in the boot or the rear seats but more than acceptable overall.

There is so little information about the FX on the net, so I will try to post a few updates to the thread over time.

Boshly, totally agree about the Tribeca, ugly but ultimately a really fantastic family car and very much underrated. I was genuinely sad to see mine go and had Subaru still made it I would have bought another.
