If it were some chisel-jawed, tweedy 70something Italian count with a pile in Tuscany and a barn-full of 60 Fezzas, he'd be deemed a charming car-loving eccentric but if it's a pair of 'yee haw' yanks with 60 Vipers, then their "taste" is questioned confused
This ^
But it's not just that they have 60 dodges, they have 60 of the same model of car, many of which didn't deviate massively from the standard one apart from colour. It's not even that the Viper was ever that great a car, even in the terrible american market

Imagine again, if you will, that this Italian Count you speak of has tucked away in his barn 64 348's
^^ This!

Really..
All aluminium V10 Engine designed by Lamborghini
Massive racing history and many, many wins to its name. Much cheaper than many cars that Automotive journalist's like to compare it to.
Viper ACR Ring record holder, Lemans 24hrs? ONE or two wins there.

Oh yes, silly me its LHD and American, so it must be rubbish. rolleyes

I'm sure most of us would spend all that money very differently. I would think the money would be better spent experiencing a broader range of cars. But it's their money, they can spend it any way they like. Different strokes for different folks!

Off the top of my head I can think if 23 distinct vipers that would be significant and different as part of a collection and I'm not including a lot of the GEN4 special additions as many were just paint schemes but could easily be added to the list. I'm pretty sure I will have missed a few as well.

If they have the $6m to drop on a viper collection kicking around under the mattress then good on them, from what I can tell the vipers are just a part of their collection.

1) GEN 1 92 red RT10
2) GEN 1 Mc viper
3) 96 Gen 1.5 RT10
4) 96-98 Gen 2 GTS
5) 97-90 Gen 2 RT
6) 99-02 Gen2 GTS
7) 99-02 Gen2 RT10
8) Gen 2 ACR
9) 98 GT2 Special addition
10) 02 Final edition
11) Gen3 First edition roadster
12) gen3 First edition coupe
13) Comp coupe race car
14) VOI special addition
15) Gen4 roadster
16) Gen4 Coupe
17) gen 4 08-09 acr
18) Gen 4 Roadster Aero
19) gen 4 coupe Aero
20) Gen 4 2010 ACR
21) ACR-x
22) Gen 5
23) Gen 5 GTS

If they have the means, who cares? Certainly more interesting than just lobbing it in the bank.

They are clearly a big fan of the car, and even though they already own a pile of them they still get excited when a special/new version is launched and just have to buy it.

In Ballywalter (Northern Ireland) there is a private mini collection (google tom turkington collection), containing one of almost every model made including all the 30th / 40th anniversary models some of which just had a stripe and different wheel trims.

obviously some of the models like the mk1 coopers are pretty special, but most of the cars are essentially the same

For all the haters out there, you have to choose one model of car to own 65 of. What would the choice be?

For me the only ones I can think of that are broad enough are 911 and 3 series. Or hell, 65 F1s would make a good investment! Though designating one the "shopping car" might be a tad impractical

I read the comments before I watched it, and I was prepared to dislike the owners because the very concept of 65 Vipers is on the face of it, inherently insane. But all those Vipers of 3 different generations look so damn cool all gathered together in their different colours, and the owners have so much southern charm that I feel like I completely understand their obsession now. And...lets be honest, these particular folks, in Texas, only really have 4 choices of cars like that to collect: Viper, Corvette, Mustang, Camaro. You ain't gonna see them collectin no stinkin imports like Ferrari front-engined V12 coupes, or hot Mercedes saloons

That being said, I don't fully understand brand loyalty to this extent, but to each their own I suppose. I'd rather have 4 Vipers: the original RT/10 in red like on the show "Viper"; the GTS coupe of late 90s, the early 2000s Viper, and the new 2013 model, and the rest would be comprised of every significant Mustang, Camaro and Corvette ever

shibby!

I loved that video!

I like Vipers... not THAT much, i think they are a cool car, but you know what its really nice. They really like them, and are passionate about them.

Ok so not much choice... Meh. So what, lots of different colours to match handbags! haha.

I always said if I had enough money I would love to have as many Lotus' as possible. Beginning with the Esprit first edition all the way to the last V8. So S1, S2, S3, SE, S4 OR S4S (it'd be stupid to have an S4 AND S4S just because of a slightly different variant which is what this mental woman as done) and of course the V8. Sport 300 or X180R or Sport 350, either or, not all 3. And then of course I would love to have a late model Elan and an Elan M100 or S2, again I wouldnt need an M100 AND an S2. An Elite, an Exige (I would choose ONE variant of the Exige as we all know there are about 30 different types), an Elise (same thing, ONE variant) a Europa (the original one), etc etc you get my point.

If I ever win the lotto I will aspire to have the largest private collection of Loti in the US. Like Jerry Seinfeld who has an airplace hangar of Porsches.

As for other supercars, I would get a Viper.

The V10 is based on the venerable LA engine. It is NOT Lamborghini designed. With that being said Chrysler owned Lambo at the time and did not have nearly the experience with casting large aluminum engine blocks at the time. So they utilized them for help.

Dodge had some ideas on what type of engine they wanted for the Viper and took a Cast Iron truck engine to Lamborghini expressing the length of stroke, low down torque they would like, Lamborghini looked at the cast Iron engine then had to re-design the engine to make it much lighter, in doing this there were compromises that had to be implemented. So what ever way you cut it the engine was re-designed by Lamborghini The GTSR engines were originally designed for F1!

There was recently in the Viper magazine, a full story on the development of the engines, and yes Lamborghini at the time was part of the Chrysler corporation smile

I would not say that working on optimizing the block and cooling is them designing or redesigning the engine. At it's base it is an LA engine. If you want to go by your logic, we can say that the engine has been redesigned by Chrysler as the engine has grown, the cooling has been improved, the block strengthened, and vvt added...
