RE: 9ff files for insolvency

Dark days..9ff have produced some incredible cars, as have both Gumpert and Weismann
Had a Weismann on my bucket list since I saw one in the flesh in Dubai, as they do modern retro perfectly and I'd take one over a Morgan Aero any day of the week. Would be nice to see BMW take them on - better than their current faux-retro sub-brand..

That's a real shame. I wasn't aware Wiesmann and Gumpert had gone under either. Of the three I particularly liked Weismann's products. They seemed to have a go at producing the BMW sports cars BMW themselves couldn't be bothered to do. I always thought Gumpert wouldn't last but it's still a shame.
Bmw probably couldn't be bothered to do it because it wouldn't sell well, like the Z4M which sold less than X5M and X6Ms. Or the csl which was a sales flop.

Bizarrely, having never seen a Weismann outside a motor show, and within minutes of reading on here the sad news of their demise, I saw a lovely black MF5 outside my house. Real presence and what a noise as he hooned it away!
ETA the correct speeeeling of Weismann!
Given where you live, and their rarity in the UK that might have been Lucas Podolski (an Arsenal player, seemingly a footballer with good taste in cars!)ETA the correct speeeeling of Weismann!
They seem to be dropping like flies at the moment, but 9ff is the biggest shock to me. Recently read an article on Speedhunters about the 9ff workshop and from those pictures they looked to be doing well. This sure is a shock and gutting too. They sure have made some fantastic machines over the years.

Following the demise of Wiesmann....
NOOOOOOOOOOO!I guess this means my switchable 9FF exhaust on my 996 Turbo is going to become a collectors item
It's a shame they have gone this way, I would have never been able to afford a complete car by them, but it was always fun to see what they did to make fast cars insanely quick (and silly expensive)

NOOOOOOOOOOO!don't care about a porker tuner but Weismann went bust? that's my dream gone....
Now that cars have huge amounts of horse power from stock, not many people need more power out of their super car. So tuners are going to have to try and adapt. Not sure what they can do but a lot of people have been saying the horse power race is coming to a end. But cars can become a lot lighter than they currently are, if tuners are to stick around they may have to "Simplify, then add lightness".
Artega, Gumpert, Weismann, 9ff, speedART, who's next?
TBH, I never cared much for 9ff's products; seemed to me they were trying to rip off RuF. That said, their engineering must've been impressive to pull off those kind of performance numbers!
Didn't hear about Gumpert and Weismann until recently. Shame because, though there are still plenty of Porsche tuners out there, Gumpert and Weismann made some of the most interesting sports/supercars out there. I always liked the "function over form" design of the Apollo, and the Weismann pulled off the retro-modern thing better than most. They always looked to me like what a modern-day Austin Healey 3000 would look like, but with a Jag XK150 grille.
At least the Artega lives on in the new Spyker, but I wonder if Spyker can last, or if they'll fall by the wayside, too?

This is what happens when car manufacturers make cars for "drivers" - I loved the product they made but it would appear the clientele in the market for purchases at this price point would prefer other marques they know and trust; ones that are far more day-to-day comfortable, civilised and more practical...

Not one of those mentioned will be missed. Weiss had impressive engineering but the cars looked attrocious. The pastiche rip off British style they tried to develop has got entirely what it deserved.
Judging by the comments so far they will be missed. The Weissmann looked great, as did the Artega. 9ff made some decent stuff, too. Gumpert however, for me at least, made stunning cars - the Apollo was the absolute antithesis of a Ferrari and all the better for it.Quite a shock and a great shame to see so many niche German companies failing at the same time.
On no... I really liked the 9ff cars, and hoped to own one along with a Weismann too!
On another note, why didn't PH report the demise of the other tuning houses? These things seem more newsworthy than some of the recent articles that seem mainly based on 'opinion'? Hmm?
Not like PH has an anti-tuner stance or anything...

They still are making cars and will continue to do so.
I have owned the Blue Apollo (that set the Top Gear lap record a few years ago) from new so am still in contact with the factory from time to time.
Here's hoping for great things from them in the future - watch this space!

If they are a "pastiche rip off" they are better in every conceivable way, including aesthetics, than the thing they are supposed to be emulating. If they were made in this country i bet you would be playing an entirely different record
