I do struggle a bit when it's refered to as 'beautiful' as you put it. However, that's a personal thing and nothing to do with me.
Fair enough although I really don't see why there would be any struggle if it's a personal/subjective thing. I am not lying, I promise, that's how I find it...

Would it not be be attacked if it wasn't a BMW? Probably not, because it wouldn't get noticed I would guess!
You're quite right.

I can't imagine the press/public would take the remotest notice of a RWD 300+ bhp hatch, if it was released by any other car maker.

It would probably sink without trace.

I don't remember him saying that. If that were the case though, it is worth mentioning that the M135i had Pilot Super Sports, which make a huge difference.
It's also worth mentioning you have a hatred of all things BMW and unbridled love of all things Audi.

laugh I get your point, but I was refering to it's looks generically not it's performance and the 1 series in general.

Glad you adore it!

It's me that struggles to see it's beauty, but again, that's your choice and it's not hurting me! No offence intended just my worthless opinion! thumbup

It will probably fall into the usual BMW pattern of being initially hideous, but somehow through familiarity get gradually more appealing, and finally when they replace it with something else it will seem to have aged unusually well.

I still don't want one though hehe

It's a shame all you looks obsessed goons would never be able to bring yourself to drive an Atom, a Morgan Aero or many other drivers cars that aren't quite your idea of visually perfect.

Anyway, why look at this thread. The solution is simple; buy an Alfa.

Terrible examples, both of those cars look fine to me, although the Morgan is a bit goofy

hehe

I'm still waiting for an answer to my question of why he(?) cannot accept any criticism of Haldex traction and overzealously defends it. I asserted that he's a stakeholder but got no response...

Sorry im rekindling this thread LOL.

Ive just test drove both cars and here's my View

M135i
Looks Crap
Insides Crap
Drives FAST, very FAST, great gearbox Lots of fun, but as I thought has traction issues in anything that involves damp/wet I was spinning in 1 2 and 3. I really wanted 135 xdrive to test, However I would consider the 235Xdrive, if only you could buy one, but then the price difference is near on AMG A45. Overall I can see what all the reviews rave about But I cannot like the car as it looks pretty drab, I priced up the relevant MPerformance body kit and just short of 5k it does look better, Wheels alone are 3.5k, but after thinking hard I decided not to go BMWs way

S3
Looks better but not by much, still too much like an A3, wheels are stock 18inch, you cant get 19s maybe after market but nothing on the selector.
Interior is a lot better and worlds ahead of the old RS3.
Drives fast, nice farting sound on gear change, not as much torque as M135 but none the less very quick.
Sticks to the road like glue, no slippage bullet from a gun like acceleration
3 door is nice but back seats are small, so ive got to choose between 5 door hatch or Saloon, dealer said hatch as its 2k cheaper and will sell better. Im thinking saloon as its new and not many about.

What you all think ?

lol Been there done that. It was originally between S3 and R anyway I just couldn't see the R nor can you drive 1, I used a Golf GTI as a template and both the wife and I didn't like the internals, the audi was deffo the better cockpit.

Also the golf price for price is more expensive, the audi gets Nappa leather as standard its 2.7k on the golf frown

I do have a dealer who will match Audis price but one thing to note.

All the lease companies ie Lease4less bluechillie etc all have the Golf R cheap, so I get the feeling there will be a lot of them about and the specials R badge wont be as special as we thought.

What has thrown a spanner in the works is, ive driven Subarus for the past 6 years and the NEW sti has come out, but I said id never buy another Scooby until they dropped the troubled EJ25 engine, of which the new one has it installed. Unless they have changed the pistons and forged the engine, im staying away, too many ringland issues with the scoobys, Subarus support has been dire

to throw another spanner in..... I preferred the A45 (its just so expensive) over the S3 and M135i.

M135i (with LSD) every time for me...though I am disappointed to hear that the steering isn't as good as it could be and that the engine lacks the old "lunge to the redline" that even my lowly 320i will do.

As for the Audi: quad pipes on an inline 4-cylinder? Really? rolleyes

So it brings it into line with every other S model? Can't see what's wrong with that. Suburu have had 4 exhausts on 4 pot engines and I've never heard anyone complaining about that.
