I know someone who fitted a light in his garage and wired it up using bell wire, CB coax and joined using cellotape! When I told him of my horror. All I got was "it's all wire innit".

I got called in to deal with one of my mates electrical mashups. He and another pal who was helping him with some kitchen alterations decided they wanted to disconnect on of the lights in the kitchen. Instead of tracing the cables back to a junction box, they lifted the floorboards in the bedroom above and (thankfully having turned the power off), cut through wires and restored power until they found the one they needed. They then joined the cables that needed reconnecting (including 30 amp ring main) using 3amp male/female connectors for extending table lamp leads.

His wife thought this may be wrong and suggested I had a look at it.

And this is why we wound up with part P.
I was asked to check some wiring alterations done in the loft of my wife's uncle and aunts house by one of their sons. When I lifted the insulation I discovered (amongst other horrors) that a spur off a ring main had been done by cutting the ring and splicing in the spur by twisting the conductors together, then insulating with masking tape yikes

In my old flat you could feel that slight buzz when you ran the back of your hand over metal appliances. Odd I thought, so I removed socket and found the earth wire was 5 inches long had just been pushed down the back. Pulled the others off and found all the same.

Dunno about worse bodge or clever thinking but on my dads Maxi the speedo had packed up so he built himself a rev counter and marked on it the rough MPH. for 4th gear.

Years ago a mate turned up at my house with a full race crossflow engine in his MK1 Escort saying he was running it in before replacing it in his F2 stock car.

Fair enough you could say but the engine was fastened to the gearbox with two pairs of molegrips, he hadn't bothered with the bolts as the engine was only in there temporarily.

More recently I was asked to give a hand removing a sound system from a Corsa as it was to be returned to the lad who had just sold the car. Among many wiring bodges was the thick power cable leading from the under bonnet battery to the large amp in the back, it ran along the scuttle, around the outside of the A pillar behind the wing top and into the car under the door seal.

I'm not entirely sure if this is done for a laugh or if they really are that inept that this was the best way they could think of to flush the engine.
So that's what liquid cooled means!

Well, Frankenstein's Monster turned-up at our shop a day too late...

If it wasn't for the state of him & his laptop, I would've said this is the best "rat look" car I've ever seen. hehe

I'm working on a "bodge" to clean-up the discs on my 330. I'll upload a video when it's finished. I expect a call from the HSE smile.
Spinning plus angle grinder?
At last, You'reatube is proud to present ...

You have a womens lathe. wink
(On a related note I'm frankly terrified of taking my 8in 4-jaw chuck to 2500rpm, not least because my lathe was originally designed to be 480rpm max and I've upped the power and top speed somewhat)

Yes, but the problem is that wood is too flexible and the spindle is too small. The tool is good for getting the rough rust off the disc and out of the drum, but the disc is so hard that the tool lifts the workpiece rather that cutting it, even if I start the cut from the inside.

I really need a bigger lathe (or one whose bed can be separated from the headstock) to allow bigger diameter parts to be turned.

I enjoyed the maths and the engineering behind the project (see http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&a... for the full story). I could probably have rigged up a Heath Robinson design based on a driven rear axle that would have worked just as well. It may have be better as it would have been secured across the hub diameter rather than a 13mm diameter shaft in a Jacobs chuck.

Before...

After (Outside)...

After (Inside)...

After (Drum)...

At the risk of not being a proper bodger I think I would have just whacked some more discs on.

I do however admire your ingenuity. bandit
