One of my best friends has an R26 R with the titanium exhaust option, initially when he first brought it home I thought he had lost the plot completely buying a garish white Renault with red wheels

I've had my ph1. (pre Trophy/Cup) 225 for 4 years now and still puts a smile on my face when I drive it. A few tweaks on the way has noticeably improved performance over the base model and it still stands out from the crowd with its distinctive styling which I like 
Often look through the PH classifieds looking for a replacement but for me it's hard to find anything for 6-7K that will tick as many boxes as the Meg does.

We've owned our 2005 Trophy from new, it has been 100% reliable and proven to be a competant and fun allrounder. We had it remapped to circa 260bhp which totally transformed the car - highly recommended! It has fantastic in gear thrust now! The car has only completed 39,000 miles and is in unmarked condition. Another upgrade was the brakes pads, the standard ones were poor and didnt inspire confidence, but a set of Ferodo DS2500 soon resolved this - they offer far improved braking performance, low dust and low noise. As with all good things we make consider selling shortly to make way for Lotus Elise SC.... Keep your eyes on the classifieds to see if I can bring myself to part with it!

I had a phase 2 225 cup for three years and loved every minute of it. This was in a period of my life where cars generally got a year.
i agree with one of the previous posters that they are good looking cars and have aged really well.
i found the build quality on the things you see / touch a bit poor but the engineering underneath the car really good. It still felt as tight to drive at the end of year 3 as it did the day I got it; that definatley wasnt the case with teh Mini Cooper S and Civic Type R i had before the renault. It was remapped as well which made a difference.
finally, a regret. I was offered an unregistered white r26r for £17995 by Arnold Clark as they just coudnt sell them near the end. Cage and 888s in White. Still lose sleep over that.

Had a 175 Diesel one of these
Most unreliable car I have ever owned in 6 months it needed a new radiator, air con compressor, wheel bearing, electric window motor and had constant electrical problems such as the central locking unlocking itself as you walked away. The interior also rattled constantly and I found the controls just badly designed such as radio stalk and cruise control.
Good to drive and with a remap I think the engine would have been pretty good just felt a bit flat stock but considering I spent 2k on repairs in 6 months (has to go to renault for half the problems, very few specialists) on a car that was 2 months out of warranty when I bought it I'd had enough and traded it for a type R (and lost another thousand doing that!) which incidental in two and a half years has not had a single problem.

I'd completely forgotten about these. The Black 175DCi on the classifieds looks lovely for 3.5k. What MPG do the early 225's achieve on a run?
I'm not sure if that dci has the cup pack- the brakes should be red if it does have the pack?225:
Early 30's on a run.
Late 20's pottering about/using some boost.

Titanium exhausts are prone to fatigue and stress cracks, and not just anyone can fix up a titanium exhaust. That I know of, I can only think of one place in the north east that does titanium exhaust work - and that is custom fabrication, they don't work on things they didn't make.I do agree that these RS Meganes are great looking cars though, shame they were not built too tough. I have not seen one in ages, but then again I very rarely see the RS 250 Meganes on the road either.
Everytime i see a RS Megane i always take another look. I know i should hate their frumpy modern car look but i just can't. I just seem to respect them instead and actually find myself impressed with its bold quirky shape. Its on my next car list but i don't know whether i could actually live with that rump?!

One of my fleet is a cooking 1.9 DCi 130 Megane and while I didn't like the looks at first it really does grow on you. One of the nice things about the car is that it is really quite small and neat compared to the more modern bloatohatches.Not strictly relevant as it's not an RS car but ours has been pretty reliable. Main thing is to keep water out of the electrics: fuse boxes, relay boxes, switches etc.

They're good... but absolutely awful looking cars, unfortunately. A shame really, as they would provide the obvious upgrade to my Clio 182.
Certainly much better than a Clio 182 to Clio 197/200 downgrade.
