Depends entirely on the Sytner you use. I've used a few now with having Alpina, in my experience, Nottingham and Maidenhead are petty good, another I've used was terble.

A mate of mine has just taken delivery of the first one sold in the UK,
Its on 20 inch wheels and drives like a dream. It is an absolutely stunning car.

Harris even said in the video it rides well despite being on ridiculously low profile, 20" rubber.

Are they go flats?

Chatting with my dad the other day he revealed a B3S Touring is now his preferred option when he comes to replace his E91 335i Touring. We're going to do some test driving later in the year. Problem is that he's had the 335i almost seven years and there's not a mark on it - the E9x series of cars is infinitely better made than the E46.

Anyway, really looking forward to having a go in a B3S to see how it compares to the 335i. The D3 must be amazing too but there's just no substitute for that throaty straight six and a few revs.

So I just checked the Alpina site. The D3 is listed with 19 inch wheels. The B3 is listed with 20 inch. I'm pretty sure these are both go flats. I'd be surprised if Alpina were going anywhere near run flats.

The B3 is showing as available in rwd and 4wd. The D3 is only showing one configuration but it's not obvious if it's 4wd or rwd. I thought the 335d is now 4wd only.

No ALPINA has run flats.
The D3 is indeed listed with 19's but he ticked the 20 option(plus many more)I have never been a diesel fan but this motor is incredible.

All the reviews I read of the BMW 4x4 system (couple of years ago) said it was crap. Have they updated it? I've had a bunch of BMs over the years, but have been sidelined into Audi as their Quattro system is so bloody good (And I need it... no really. RWD cars don't do my 1:3 driveway in snow & ice). But would prefer to get back in a Beemer (Alpina) if poss.

TIA for any info.

Yep. Had winters on one that was stuck at my house for 4 weeks, 2 winters ago. Even tried reversing up to make it FWD! TBH it's not often that bad, but there are a shed load of very steep hills here. Postie often doesn't get through.

Spend 50k on the diesel, and 100k on the petrol - sorted smile

Furthermore if spending £50k on a car, cash is clearly not a major issue so diesel mpg benefits are semi irrelevant - wouldn't you just buy the petrol version instead?
This is so often mentioned... but it's not the MPG, it's the range. (40+ mile round trip to the nearest filling station). Also, here, torque is more important than bhp as the roads are hilly, narrow and twisty. (100 more of 'em in the D3)

ETA... this is the road to one of the two filling stations I use.

TBH the B3 is hardly lacking torque though, I get the range argument but if it was a toss up between the the D or B3 the B would win (pretty good mpg as well)

Scratch that the B3 is nearly 10k more I'd take the D3. smile

Nice view though.

I'd be considering a 1000 litre tank of diesel at home. If you buy in bulk surely someone would deliver. I wouldn't fancy storing that much petrol near the house. But those who can't get piped gas people use those large lpg tanks. I thought with the right adapter you can use domestic lpg in your car but don't tell the taxman.

Checked with Alpina. Go flats only ..

..and only RWD in RHD. 4x4 available, but not in UK spec - LHD only.

Pretty certain Alpina have never used RFTs. Nor have any proper M cars. Shows how cr4p they are!

Correct. Neither do a lot of the ordinary BMWs now... they have quietly sidled away from 'standard fit' runflats on a lot of models now in the UK market.

I had to tell my dealer they were a no cost option on the m135i; he didn't believe me!
