1 Use a tyre lever, not your hands

2 You've used enough lube to keep an orgy happy for about a month

3 Get someone who knows what they're doing to do it for you, and learn from that - It'll be cheaper and easier than damaging the bead and needing another new tyre

First save some skin by either turn your hands around so your fingers are away from the rim or by pressing down with your fists.

Lift the left side of the tyre up higher before you start so that it is properly hooked under the lever

Press down on the tyre around the 4 o'clock position harder than you are doing in the video then keep pressing down and follow it around to the 9 o'clock position where the tyre should pop on to the rim.
Ok, so all my weight should go at 4 position, and my fist shouldn't move at all and I Should follow all way around with my weight on until it pops?

Hi,

It's a scrappy tyre.

Noted the lube and I have taken it all off!

Is this really worth the effort when a friendly tyre fitter will do it in minutes for a fiver?

It's not the money.

I like learning new things and doing this type of thing..

In Sheffield it's usually £10-15 and then a second trip to sort the balancing out.

Yes, and see my other post; try and twist the tyre on partially before using the machine to reduce the chance of it slipping off.

Ok great news.

I removed all the lube and used a tiny bit.

Got the tyre on the head and twisted it a bit in as much as I could. Then I put all my weight on with my fists clenched at the head and followed it around and it went straight in.

Took it back out and re did it 2-3 times. I can now do it smoothly biggrin

Thanks alot everyone, great help smile

Well done fella.

Nothing like that feeling of learning something new.

I personally have never done a tyre but reading this and watching your video I think I will have a better idea now.

Yeah, I'll make a new video.

Just get on top toes and crush down at that position and follow it around. Just gotta be aggressive.

I was such a vagina in that youtube video, I'm embarrassed hehe

I want to ask another question for you guys.

What actually causes the head to come into contact with the alloy causing kerbing marks ? When mounting the tyre, if all goes well and you keep the weight down the head won't make any contact with the alloy whatsoever.

Yet when it starts to cock up a bit and the bead starts sliding off the bottom of the head bit then I find that the head comes directly into contact with the alloy.

Is this caused by the alloy being forced towards the head of the head being pulled to the alloy and what can you do to avoid this.

I tried expanding the gap between the head and the alloy to the max mark but it still forced contact with the alloy when it began slipping.

When I managed to get all my weight on and made it get on smoothly I heard no contact with the head to the alloy.
