Loeb isn’t dull, he’s extremely quick and committed, albeit very neat. You don’t finish 2nd at LeMans if you’re slow. Anybody at the Port Talbot jump on RallyGB in 2008 will have seen him take it flat and land virtually on the nose – almost McRae-esque!!
The modern WRCar has to be driven ‘circuit racing’ style – smooth consistent lines – no huge sideways, crowdpleasing slides – that just loses time, and Loeb is The Master at this, just as Rohrl was.

This just raises more points – to those that follow the sport – and attend we know; the problem is with the general Motorsport fan – it can appear dull on TV, and this has to be addressed if the sport is to grow.
Do you increase the power of the cars? Do you change the regs so the cars are louder & more spectacular? Do you allow in GT cars? As already said, the current FWD cars are’t exactly inspiring.

Loved the F2 Kit cars – they really added an ‘unknown factor’ into the WRC Tarmac events – lightweight, similar power, N/A 2.0L engines...What’s not to like. Saying that, the 306 Maxi never won a WRC event, whereas the Xsara did.
I wish there was a 2WD class nowadays, whether that be FWD, RWD, or even GT...... It’s all abit predictable, and no ‘specialist drivers’ doing the odd event.
That definitely added something to a tarmac event. I recently found footage of possibly WRC Corsica from the late Nineties were, the F2s got a real grip on the top 3 places. Well they were looking good until a hard charging McRae managed to get his Subaru in front. Exciting stuff unless you were in one of the other WRC cars and lost out on points!
Yes, seen that. All the grp A lot were getting in a right huff having their pants pulled down by the pugs! http://youtu.be/f12_pDG7wvA?t=4m33s big fan of Mark James commentary too
