Could this be the best car for £200?

Probably a better shout than keeping fixing my current one - rear wheel bearings has turned into rear brake overhaul!I'm feeling ripped off now.
Luckily I've just bought this...
...for £148.
Picked my van up today and I wasn't disappointed.
The tyres are a little close to to the limit and a little side wall cracky and this...
...hole was a clump of filler that needed extraction. I welded a foot long plate in place due to the amount of surface rust inside where the "B" pillar drain hole had been filled the whole section was full of water.
Once cleaned a few times she almost looks presentable...
...in a less mossy and not full of rat poo kind of way.

that's one hell of a hole!
Where it had been patched up and blob welded before there was about a quarter of an inch of filler to compensate. Where the bunghole was filled as well condensation built up and the repair virtually fell off. M.O.T tester said:
I love it when you bring stuff in Rob. You're so anal about your welding.
Passed with advisories for the tyres and front brakes where it's been stood about. I have a few sets of Punto, Uno Turbo or Strada Abarth alloys to choose from.
£148 for the van £40 for the M.O.T (£39 for the test and £1 for a number plate light bulb), the biggest load space in its class for £198 all in.

I do love your cheap car shenanigans LK
That van is a cracking buy but what ever happened to your Gulf Cinq ? I loved that.
meanwhile,
I've just picked up a Ford SportKA for £350. Needs MOT/Tax but should be on the road for £550 all in

I always felt sorry for the Sport KA as it was overshadowed by the Fiesta ST and Puma. Nippy little roller skate it reminds me of the old Fiesta Si 1.6 (MkIII).
Guff was scrapped as it was a terribly repaired front end shunt that basically bent the whole floor. Guff II is still on my driveway waiting for me to decide what engine to make fit. V8 or V8?

what is that fiat van?? some sort of panda van?
Fiorino based on the Fiat 147 made in Brazil. 1.7 N/A Diesel so good for 60+mpg as well. What happened to the Escort van you were fitting Focus rear suspension to?

Gone £10 over budget this Winter but I have a Bugs Bunny...

This is the lost soul Golf. MkII GTI 8V engine (basically) so a bombproof 115bhp, MkII chassis and interior with MkIII styling and an insulated electric roof that is arguably the best of the era.
Okay 115bhp isn't going to set the world on fire considering how heavy the car is but buying a convertible in Winter is supposed to be a good idea. Come Spring time I'll give the car a good polish and knock it out for book price. Failing that ruin the paint, cut the springs, put a load of stickers on it and sell it for five times what it owes me to a "Dub Scene" mug.
Insurance is roughly the same as my 1.6 Punto Sporting was so this could be a bargain or pretty good breaker. Win-win.

A few scabs here and there but not bad.
Collected and it felt a bit odd really. The only minor hick up was due to the broken engine mount. The first roundabout I stopped at the engine rocked back and knocked the induction pipe off the throttle body. However that wasn't the odd part. So I didn't break down again I had to drive like I had Miss Daisy in the back. This wasn't odd it was bloody weird. I was sat looking at a MkII Golf GTI dash, sat MkII GTI seat, holding on to a MkIII GTI Steering wheel, with the unmistakable sound of a MkII eight valve GTI engine and five speed MkIII GTI gear knob; but the car felt refined, softly spring and the extra weight made it feel a lot better planted than my old MkII, MkIII or even MkIV GTI. The power steering is well weighted and positive so rather than wondering if the steering wheel is connected to the car at all as I used to on the MkIV I was keeping momentum around the corners. Thus helping the engine mount and as a result...
...over 50mpg!!!
Bonkers. I'm looking forward to giving the old bus a wash and tidy up tomorrow and get her up in the air to take a closer look at the engine mount.

Just to fill in the missing gap. My Fiorino died a death worthy of any Italian vehicle. I sold various parts and weighed the rest in to raise the £236 I paid for this...

...the most brilliant crap car I have ever owned. I have the Golf so I can fix the X1/9 over Winter and my Panda is still waiting to be finished.
I'm also negotiating the purchase of this...

There was a Mk.1 Mondeo 1.8 that was for sale nearby for £150, with 6 months MOT. It sold the day I was going to go round and snap it up. Bugger.
(Edit) It was in some sort of puke green though...
Citrine Yellow???(Edit) It was in some sort of puke green though...
There must have been a "0" missing off the end of the price. My brother had a Citrine Yellow Si 4x4 Mondeo. He paid £600 for it in 2003, hammered it about and sold it after being sat in a shed for four years in 2012 for £2,000
Terrible car, not a great colour but together awesome.
I know I could have fixed it but...
...for the sake of a fiver, an hour in a scrap yard, a few minutes cleaning and a shake of a rattle can...
...good as new.
Completely different beast now. The car is clean, smells nice (was a bit of a ball pit in the back but it's Mom car) and I don't have to drive like an ecomentalist. New battery as well because the old one was cooked. The total now stands at £271.14 (£272 minus the 86p I found under the seats and carpets).
Advertised for £495 to knock it out over the weekend or keep. I haven't decided yet.

Just a little update. Slightly off topic but still thread worthy.
I sold my Punto for £200 added a little and bought the Golf.
Spent a little time and money on the Golf and sold it for a little profit.
Added a little and bought this...

...Alfa GTV Ts in dark blue, tan leather trim, full service history, two owners from new and both member of the Alfa Owners Club. Was for sale at £1495 but dropped to a buy it now of £800, reduced again to £700 and I bid £600 but won the car for £570.
Minus the Golf the Alfa owes me £120
