Could this be the best car for £200?

I had one of them previously, heavy old bus for the m42.but ok to drive, if a little tame compared to the e30.Decent buy about that price

I think the E36 was the last driving machine BMW made, since then they've all been drivers aids.
The E46 was exactly the same chassis but slightly stiffer/heavier plus one button to switch off DSC/ASC depending on model year. Hardly a chore! E36/E46 worse than the E90 in my experience in every way. You're like me you trust opinions to be fact a bit too often. iloveboost said:

Ah, but the E36 could be fixed by a mechanic. The E46 needs a technician (glove wearing nerd with a diagnosticmebob) to reset the ECU every time you change a spark plug.
The e36 is too complicated (Vanos FTL!)Give me an m20 that can be fixed with hammers and runs on anything above 91RON.
Anyway, back to the actual discussion, my e46 is good, but I think the lack of MOT/Tax goes against it

The chap I sold it to took the dash apart and dabbed some black paint on the ABS LED and sold it for £1,000!
These people are still out there.

Probably a better shout than keeping fixing my current one - rear wheel bearings has turned into rear brake overhaul!Toaster Pilot said:

Luckily I've just bought this...
...for £148.
Picked my van up today and I wasn't disappointed.
The tyres are a little close to to the limit and a little side wall cracky and this...
...hole was a clump of filler that needed extraction. I welded a foot long plate in place due to the amount of surface rust inside where the "B" pillar drain hole had been filled the whole section was full of water.
Once cleaned a few times she almost looks presentable...
...in a less mossy and not full of rat poo kind of way.

that's one hell of a hole!
Where it had been patched up and blob welded before there was about a quarter of an inch of filler to compensate. Where the bunghole was filled as well condensation built up and the repair virtually fell off. M.O.T tester said:
I love it when you bring stuff in Rob. You're so anal about your welding.
Passed with advisories for the tyres and front brakes where it's been stood about. I have a few sets of Punto, Uno Turbo or Strada Abarth alloys to choose from.
£148 for the van £40 for the M.O.T (£39 for the test and £1 for a number plate light bulb), the biggest load space in its class for £198 all in.
