RE: Jaguar XKR-S GT: Review
Discussion
At this price, sounds like there can finally be a back to back test of an Aston vs a Jag that makes sense - the new V12VS hardcore Vantage is 138k and this is 135k
Normally, they compare vantages with XKs because the price is similar, yet the XK in it's regular guises is a GT more akin to the DB9 (albeit much cheaper) - here are 2 track orientated cars (admittedly more so in the Jag's case) at similar prices

Great a nice and sporty Jag. Well IMHO Jag are trying to get into markets where Porsche et al have proven their memberships with offerings that don't really measure up. Agree it is probably a cracking car & as with all things British, driven by a Brit, there is a certain level of politeness with the review. But £135k! Great they sold 50! But if the ageing XK's come with a £30k discount, why not offer these new upgrades on the existing XKR-S, for reasonable money. It would be an awesome addition and far more better approach to trying to arrive in an area where you are competing with the 991 GT3 or new Turbo, Turbo S, which c'mon are seriously more technically advanced, better built and far more focused?
I myself yearn for an XKR-S, not because it is anywhere near as good as my 997S, but because I 'want it', just as I want Jaguar to do well, really well. But please let's set the trends and not chase them.

All that downforce at speeds no-one will ever use - WTG there...
It's a PR and cash grab, pure and simple - if they wanted to make an XK for the track, they'd have started on the principle that it should be simpler/lighter and if not actually cheaper, certainly not LUDICROUSLY more expensive.
It's great that the engineers used the oppo to make a weapon - sadly it's a weapon that only the King will hold as he sits at the back of the army, watching everyone else doing the fighting. It won't be used in anger and so it was a bit of a waste of time.
It's also uncouth - sudden - it just won't do, but then I prefer the most basic XK anyway, shorn of Carnoisseur Chicken-wire grilles and Plumbcenter Bonnet Vents it's just a lovely thing to behold

145kg of downforce ?? er, no, they mean 145kg less lift........
(if that car has positive downforce at speed, i'll eat my virtual hat ;-)
Probably sensible to make just 10 available, 'cause i have no idea why you would buy one?????
Not really worth replying to you but you need to go and eat your hat. Although it is virtual.(if that car has positive downforce at speed, i'll eat my virtual hat ;-)

Assuming you don't want a GT3 or even a Turbo, would you really buy this over a V12 Vantage S?
Depends if you value capability above badge snobery.Bash Brannigan said:
Does anyone know when JLR are replacing the current XK? Just wondering whether this is an almost run-out model, or whether they're testing how much life the chassis has in it for the next generation? Whatever's happening, it sounds like Jag is back on track which is naffing great!
From what I've heard the new XK will be announced in 2015.FWDRacer said:

Depends if you value capability above badge snobery. The XK-RS was slower around the Ring and Hockenheim than the DBS. Sport Auto didn't take the V12 Vantatge around the Ring, but it was faster than the DBS aropund Hockenheim. The V12 Vantage S on track is rather quicker than the non-S. This Jaguar has a similar power boost over the XKRS to the V12VS over the V12V. Apparently it did a 7.40 around the Ring. The V12VS time is unknown, but will be significantly udner 8 minutes, so your claim without evidence that it wouldn't see which way the Jag went is silly.

Torque. And an artificially limited position (ZF capped) on XKRS-GT that provides a torque curve looks like table mountain thanks to the Supercharged powertrain. All about the area under the curve. That area is smaller on a N/A V12 Vantage.
Exhaust on the Jaguar makes the Vantage sound a bit limp wristed also. Like thor gargling with mallets .
What evidence do you have to suggest otherwise then clever B0ll0cks?
...resorting to Nurburing willy waving? I'd thought better of you

OK, so you don't really have the evidence to back up the assertion, do you?Exhaust on the Jaguar makes the Vantage sound a bit limp wristed also. Like thor gargling with mallets .

Vantage V12S 457lb·ft@Peak
I think if the whole car was the same colour, the apendages would blend in better and the overall look would be much more subtle.
£135 price point for something as capable as this on track and as comfortable on road, is ball park money compared to say the Maserati Granturismo stradale, 911 turbo, Aston V12s, Bentleys etc etc. Its like people complaining you can now spec a VW Golf to over £40k, if people buy it (and they do) the price is good!!!
