I was there in the afternoon session for RS sales specialists when it luckily dried out. Had a couple of laps with Chris in this machine and it was a real eye opener. I was expecting it to be really crashy and race carish but it had pretty much the same ride comfort of a normal XKR-S but felt so much more planted at the same time.

I have been fortunate to have driven some really quick cars but this thing just felt brutal (luckily in the right hands too!) would have loved to have been able to have a go but they couldn't risk one of us mere mortals binning the only development car....

I would like to know just how "on it" Chris was as he was still chatting away whilst putting on a great show.

I made a comment that he may have been able to match the XJ220 at The Ring as opposed to not being able to keep up as in the normal XKR-S video a while ago, and he agreed that yes it would have been much closer. He really did seem to be very impressed with how good it was which was great to hear.

I followed Chris out of the pits in an XFR-S an he just promptly fekked off into the distance!

As for F-Type coupe "Jaguar do not discuss future models" is the company line. We all know its coming and can't wait for the "R" "R-S" and "GT" versions of this as the current V8 S is already an animal. The cynic in me thinks that things such as the suspension / track changes and ceramic brakes from this GT version were developed with F-Type cope in mind....

I have a very brief fly by video of the GT followed by an XKR-S but can't seem to load it up to YouTube....

If you any petrol in your veins this is exactly the sort of car that a true Pistonheads member should be embracing surely.

I am fortunate to own a GT3 and it's a keeper. However I also had a brief fling with an XFR and it was a hoot. Jaguar make some cracking cars and we should congratulate them for having the b*lls to market such a tool as this - Bravo.

I'll take mine in BRG please!

No mention of weight? I know everyone bangs on about it but if your aiming it at track enthusiasts its a vital stat i would think?

Plenty of people drive fast and will feel the benefit of the downforce.
Not on the road, they won't.

Not many places you can use 180+mph - in fact there's effectively nowhere in the UK you can do that at all - in fact there's almost nowhere, anywhere, outside of salt flats and a couple of test tracks!?

Haven't driven V12 Vantage S, but Last V12V wouldn't see where this car went around the 'Ring. Aero makes big difference at high speed. Horst only managed 8.02 in a DBS. I've not driven An Aston that could do what this car did at Oulton yesterday. And no, I haven't driven a One-77.

Love a pointless 'Ring argument.
Just need Horst in both (or you, but he's the man with the long, long list of Ring times). Then we'll know.

It's a pointless argument anyway, as the difference will be negligible on the road, whichever is faster.

And in future Harry Metcalfe will be involved in just this very thing I think. His new role with JLR ETO makes sense with respect to cars like this.
You are correct, more to come like this from ETO/Jaguar. I think we may surprise a few people..
Well hello Mr.M!

I've done some engineering work in the past with some guys in ETO, fantastic bunch and I'm sure you'll have a great time working with them.

Now chop chop, get working on that F-Type Coupe GT3..... wink

As the owner of a "plain Jane" current-model XK Coupe I try and track XK product developments. Answering the posters asking when the next-generation XK is due, I believe the answer is: "not for some years."

The GT category is not a big volume seller and JLR's R&D resources are flat out developing the new small saloon/estate/coupe and SUV. And quite right too - so they should be.

I don't like the -R and RS models much, as I think all those extra vents and spoiler bits just ruin the purity and elegance of the original XK design. For this variant, however, I could make an exception - if that Euro-lotto win ever arrives..

My sources say that the F Type is having a bit of a halo effect and XK sales are actually going up!

That I could believe, my friend. Especially when your OH looks in the boot of the F type and declares that it won't carry her stuff when you plan that weekend away together.

Moreover, if you've got yourself the spare wheel option in there, then it won't even carry that limited amount of man-stuff you & I might take either. Clarkson had that right when he tested the F type; a toothbrush and a face flannel as your "weekend away" kit...

The XK will cope with luggage for two and a weeks' trip to Italy and back. Did just that last year in mine & went to the Italian Grand Prix. I wouldn't have even tried that in an F type. Don't get me wrong, an F type is a lovely thing, etc, but you need another car on fleet for the practical moments in life. An XK can be the only drive & just about cope (although I don't take stuff to the dump in mine, that would be sacrilege, I feel).

It may not appeal to everybody but the R-S GT was not designed to look pretty. Every feature is functional and there for a reason. If it wasn't needed it wasn't included.

Sure. And as I said in my earlier post, if Euro-lottery ever come up with the goods, I'll be down my nearest dealer to buy one.
