I've only ever owned one BMW, a 1995 318is coupe, lovely little thing and I keep thinking an E46 330i would suit me nicely.

As an aside, I'll leave this here for everyone to peruse.

Friends & colleagues thought it mad. But I'm sure these cars were more fun than their newish astras and focus
Are these people that think the inner workings of a car engine are some kind or wizardry? If so, basing purchases on their flawed opinions makes as much sense as selling the car to buy petrol. But you know that.

Just don't tell too many our secret or we won't be able to afford these nice, older cars! hehe

I have a 100k E46 330i, its brilliant and so well built

No squeaks or rattles, engine uses no oil or water what so ever and pulls like a train

Infact I'm a die hard VAG fan (thus the username) and my next car will be a BMW now I reckon, all due to how highly I rate this car

In my opinion it looks fantastic for its age

That looks brilliant. Love Imola red. thumbup

Any pics of the interior?

Who cares if it's got 100, 200 or 300+ k miles on the clock if it's in great condition (as it appears to be)? I'd rather have a 200k mile car that's been enthusiast owned and had no expense spared on it than a 20k mile car that's been abused by a moron. - The problem with most older cars isn't that the car itself is unreliable after a certain mileage, it's that owners aren't prepared to keep on top of the maintenance or rebuild components that have lasted an age but finally need reconditioning.

I mean; what's it's supposed value on the used market? £2,500? If I owned it, it's actual worth to me would be far more.

Some shameless plugging of my own car but a few pics below:

I totally agree, the value isn't great on the car but I cannot find anything that's even close for the value that drives as well and is as luxury feeling

Its much greater than the sum of its parts!

Agreed. - I think it's funny how if you kept it in that condition for long enough, the price would eventually rise. - Look at the prices of immaculate E30 325is, for example and compare them to 10-15 years ago.

I bought an 'R' Reg 528i Touring (E39) a month ago with 140,000 on the clock. Cost? £680
MOT till end of March. Exterior quite good apart from dings on lower corners and sills (woman driver?)
Interior is full leather and really good.
Car pulls like a train. I've serviced it and got a spare set of alloys (5) for £70 on which I've put a set of part-worn Pireli winter tyres for £75!

Sorted! smile

Either wearing a personal reg or it's been scrapped I think, as not on DVLA database.

Not as impressive as some of the other specimens shown so far, but thought I'd share a picture of the battlecruiser - it cost £3500 and has been good for 37k miles in the 18 months since, with only a small hiccup when the alternator belt shredded leaving me stranded. Other than that it's been superb.

She went through the auction last year - a sin if its been scrapped, I'd have had it back! Last I saw it was up for considerably more than it sold for at a dealer in Cambridge

...following on from my musings of second hand cheap cars
Check out the other thread re running old BMW,

"My 730d 2008 in for an oil change, just had a call from the dealership,

Sir the front parking light bulb needs changing,is it ok to do that ?"
How much ? Expecting him to reply a fiver sir !
That will be approx £140 plus vat !!!!

Apparently they need to take off the front bumper to replace the bulb and that will be an hour job."
