Do declare them, it won't add any extra (mine didn't). I run with an HKS induction kit and it's pretty much OE soundwise when pottering. As son as you're in Vtec it sounds like a 90s touring car. Love it.
How much extra did the induction kit add to your insurance? 90's touring car soundtrack sounds errrm 'appealing'!

Nothing. I am 37 with 8 years NCB though. It's also insured to do 25,000 miles+ a year so my premium is already rather large.

30 with 2.5 yrs no claims, doing 12-15k a year, so I guess it might add a bit for me...

Had mine coming up three weeks. Unintentional buy to replace a broken BMW. Got offered for a get price and it was a no brained.

Was expecting it to be crap but no, it's an absolute dream to drive. I love the look and interior and the noise is incredible.

Don't know if I'd want to do 16k miles a year but it's more than capable and the GT like mine had plenty of toys. Love it. Highly recommended.

They're pretty chav. I wouldn't want as a daily as they're not very comfortable.
How about a nice ep3 premier and a barge? Is two cars an option?

Personally, I would say the Ep3 is far more 'chav' than the FN2. They seem to have reached the price bracket now where they fall into the hands of idiots. Early FN2's seem to be heading this way now too.

This is probably true. But they're a great car to have in ones fleet (unmolested)

Rather than start a new 'what car' topic I when I'm already 80% certain on what I want, I thought I'd resurrect this thread.

I'm seriously considering getting an FN2 as my daily driver, to the point I'm -almost- set on that being my next purchase. Looking at something between 40-50k in terms of mileage, so budgeting between £7k and £8.5k.

I did initially consider a Golf GTI or an Audi S3, but for a decent example they're a out of my league price-wise. Is there anything else I've not thought about which might be worth looking at? Basically I want something that's in a roughly similar league performance-wise, that I can get a mountain bike in the back of once in a while and isn't a Focus ST. Anyone got any bright ideas? Cheers.
I recently bought a 57 plate FN2 for £7495 on 49k......so pretty much what you're looking to do!

Performance wise it's more than good enough, a lot quicker than they get credit for and when pushed theyw ill outperform most competitors, but an Audi S3 would obviously be a bit quicker in a straight line with 60bhp extra.

Handling is excellent, interior is excellent, reliability is excellent and interior space is better than excellent, I believe with the seats down the FN2 has similar rear space to an old Astra Van!

Go test drive one and you will love it, I've put 4500 miles on mine and I wouldn't change it for anything in it's class smile

I bought mine mostly thanks to this thread!

I've done 12k in just under a year and its a great practical hot hatch with a huge boot, the dashboard seems to be made from old bin lids but apart from that its a great car. It's also very easy to work on, the HKS induction sounds great in the vtec and quiet when cruising on the motorway.

Its nickname is the Chav Chariot.

The only real criticism is the brakes which are barely adequate.

Yeah, the EP3 is a bit of a chav motor these days and agree with the comments above re them falling into the right price bracket for this, but I don't think the FN2 is there yet - don't doubt that in the future they probably will be, but I've not seen any on stty aftermarket alloys, with daft stickers attached or sounding like there's a hole in the exhaust. That said, I don't really care about the image of a car to others too much, as long as I'm enjoying driving it!

As for two cars, I don't think I could get close to justifying that unfortunately - nor is it really something I want to do. The FN2 seems to be have a good balance for being suitable for a daily commute of 18 miles each way, having plenty of load space for a bike and being quick and noisy when I feel like putting my foot down.

Seems to match up with the general consensus - I need to stop fannying about and buy one it seems!

Out of interest, how much did the induction kit being fitted add to your insurance premium? The more I read about it, the more it seems like something I should invest in once I've got an FN2.

No difference to the premium, although I am technically coming up to 'middle age'.

FWIW I'm doing 54 miles 5 days a week in an S2000, much more compromised than a civic type r. Zero f*cks given smile

At 22 an HKS RSK Induction adds £30 per year to my policy so would be less or nothing for someone with far more driving experience I'd expect. it's the £300+ cost to buying the kit that I can't stomach just yet! smile

Right, I'm off to look at one this afternoon. 47k on the clock and it's a GT model so pretty much bang on what I'm after. I'm aware of the need to check the door/window seals and the roof for rust, the clutch, third gear issues, the thin paint/lacquer generally and obviously all the standard bits when buying second hand. Is there anything else in particular I should be aware of?

How addictive Vtec is. biggrin

Where are you based? I consider mine to be a good one so if you're local you're welcome to come have a drive so you have something to compare.

I had a few goes in a friend's lightly modified Accord Type R a many years ago, so I know what you mean about the Vtec addiction (just kicked in 'yo, etc)!

Thanks, that's a really kind offer, but I'm East Midlands based and I see from your profile you're in Basingstoke - life is pretty busy at the moment so I don't think I could justify the journey.

I'll let you know how I get on...

Right, I've agreed a deal on a type r and a half decent trade in on my Focus steybox, picking it up tomorrow afternoon... Feeling rather excited! It's red, 47k on the clock and in very good nick generally. A few paint issues, which are to be expected, but the dealer is respraying the bonnet (which was very heavily stonechipped) and sorting the scuffs on the corners of the front splitter so I'm pretty pleased with it.

First thing I want to get sorted asap is fitting an aux cable to the stereo so I can use my ipod - could anyone point me in the direction of where I can get one? And how difficult it is to fit? I've looked around and the only one I can find is this one, which appears only to fit the ep3 Civic. http://www.nexxia.co.uk/product.asp?s=Connects2%20...

Cheers.
