AVOID Milano Red.

The stone chips are ridiculous - the paint is so thin that the bonnet on my dads (and several others, judging by honda forums) that it had to be resprayed twice in 30k.

yes It's not too apparent in the photo unless you zoom right in, but my wife's is in desperate need of a respray on the bonnet due to stone chips and I think it's done about 40k. We've had a couple of quotes and will be getting it done soon.

I'm sold. If anyone in the Berks or Hants area is looking to sell a GT spec one in either red or black then send me a PM.

The search begins!

Go for it man, I borrowed one for a week or so from a friend, it was a 58 plate GT in bronze (rare colour, I believe it was expensive as a factory option and nine times out of ten it looks black), smart car, the 19" alloys ruined the ride around town a bit but on 18's they are acceptable enough.

I liked it so much infact that I'm wondering if I made a mistake buying the RS200 Clio (11 plate) as a second/fun/possible occasional track day car!

Make sure you get a GT model - it has extra airbags, cruise control, cliamte control, front foglights and foldy mirriors, worth the extra cash for sure. Cars MANUFACTURED from March 2010 onward have a mechanical LSD.

Honda say the CVT fluid and valve clearances need doing every 25,000 miles, I got a quote from Honda Aberdeen at £180 and Honda Huddersfield at £175 for both bits of work doing at the same time. Spark plugs are expensive but last forever (75k miles?).

smile They're great cars. A friend of mine runs a Honda car club and owns a CTR and he advised us to check the service history as it's absolutely essential. Most of the CTRs for sale that I looked into seemed to have been owned and serviced considerately from new and then after three years passed on to an owner who either never serviced the car or mis-treated it, usually both. One such car came into a Honda dealer near us after three years of no servicing and they had to repair a huge number of things - quite scary - we also drove the car and it felt like a dog from the word go. The pattern got so predictable that we ended up casting the net nationwide and found our perfect car a three hour drive away in Wales - it was worth it though. This is probably par for the course with buying any hot hatch to be honest... Good luck searching, the good cars are out there!

I did 77k miles in 3.5 years of FN2 ownership, it was fine on the motorway but it got a bit much on poor B roads, the ride was rock hard. I still loved the car though, and as for the EP3 lovers, everyone i've spoken to that has actually owned both cars thinks the FN2 is the better car, i had an EP3 for 3 years too but much prefer the FN2.

Go for it.

Am I mental to even consider a CTR? Before all the "buy an EP3 they're better" crowd emerge, the EP3 is too old and small to stuff clients in when required.

I really couldn't say there is all that much more space inside the FN2, if any. But the EP3 is the better car in most other ways by some margin.

I've probably went over it a hundred times, but everything from looks, cabin layout, handling, engine, price...I could go on and on.

Looks and the cabin are subjective, personally I feel the FN2 is a far better car in both looks and cabin quality and layout.

The EP3 doesn't handle better either, the steering on the earlier ones was an numb as could be and the later ones despite that improvement weren't as predictable or as sharp at the front end as the FN2.

How is the engine better?

It felt much more eager and aggressive with the higher cam profile shift. Just one of a myriad things which made the EP3 the better driver's car. I felt the FN2 was too soft, too stodgy and too watered down, despite having an atrocious ride quality that sapped it's ability to keep those big 'ole wheels down on rough tarmac.

I should add that my wife's requirements, met perfectly by the CTR FN2, were for an ordinary everyday car that didn't wallow and lurch around, didn't have a big delay on the throttle, didn't have lifeless woolly steering/responses and didn't have over servoed brakes. She didn't want a performance car, just a well made reliable car that didn't drive like a blancmange. After weeks of trying different cars, she fell in love with the CTR FN2.

Yet again I'm left to argue that if its really those things you want, you should have bought a DC2 or an EK9. Aggressive VTEC on a K20? bh please.

An EP3 is soft, that's why you see women driving them to work and back every day.

Standard vs standard neither handle amazingly, but are both transformed by a FRSU.

Much difference in a straight line? Not really http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5oZPd8dGK8

Round tracks, the FN2 is known to be as fast if not faster than an EP3.

All that, with a much nicer cabin, modern look and feel.

So tell me again why the EP3 is a better car, because it's cheaper?

EP3 owners are all the same lol.

Can we keep the FN2 Vs EP3 out of this thread. I like the EP3 but it's too dated both outside and the interior for me to pull it off as a car allowance vehicle. Especially as I would aim to run it for 3 years. If I want handling dynamics I'll take the MX5 out.

This sounds exactly what I want from a daily knowing that when a nice stretch of road presents itself I can drop a couple of cogs and give it the beans.

Lol I kid. Good luck finding a nice FN2. The Championship White ones are the ones to go for IMO.

I wish, sadly my max budget doesn't stretch that far.

I quite like these but not really a motorway car if that's what you'd mostly be using it for.

I couldn't have one though. That rear spoiler thing right in the middle of the window wound me up (I can cope with any other car with a spoiler) and actually gave me a bit of a headache on a long trip (anybody else had that?)

I thought the FN2 was only a 4 seater?

Most days I do 15 miles twisty smooth A roads and 10 miles DC each way. Once a week max I'll be on a motorway for a couple of hours each way.

Spoiler doesn't bother me, the old roll bar in my MX5 made the rear view mirror useless and I got used to it.
