RE: PH's review of reviews
Discussion
Did you run this past the PH Board? The Week does something similar for news stories (and car reviews actually) but they don't also produce original content. Isn't there a copyright issue or are you including Haymarket magazines only? I see what you're thinking but execution is key I guess.
That's terrible.
If PH wants to improve then the articles on the home page need to be as good as or better than the features in magazines like EVO, as entertaining and diverse as the videos produced for petrolicious and the content needs to updated with much more urgency as its rare to see a release on PH that hasn't popped up elsewhere first.

I'll be honest - I read the original article 3 times and had absolutely no clue what you were offering. How on earth it managed to get that past the editorial team I have no idea.
Anyway, clicking on the link made it clear and I like the idea in concept and it'll be interesting to see how this works in the coming weeks/months, as long as you will offer both positive and negative reviews, then it should work well to give us a balanced understanding of each car.
A further question would be how do you find relevant comments from other PH'ers to fill in the comments section?

Iv said this before but how about some artciles on PH cars/Heros for under £3k, £5k, £10k, £20k, etc. Pull together the cars, specific details relating to running costs, comparisons between cars of similar price (preferably sector too I.e RWD coupes, barges, etc) this would be of far more interest to far more people I believe. A similar format to the 1 series, GTI, A class story but with used cars...
You could even link any old threads about the car to the story as further sources of information. Would make interesting reading and might get people out of their appliances and into more interesting (if older) cars
I quite like this idea though, it's good to try new things as long as it's not at the expense of the older ideas...

Nearly 6500 threads here - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&a...
I appreciate many aren't that interesting and some are long out of date, but if 1% are about interesting cars with owners willing to talk then you have material for one article per week on a car enthusiasts website.
Picking bits from other peoples reviews and asking us what we think isn't journalism and to be honest isn't something that would keep me coming back.

Anyway, feedback welcome. Preferably based on having had a look at the story first though, eh?
Cheers!

I also commented after reading the article.
Still not entirely convinced on the idea. To my eyes, it just looks like a cheap and brainless way of getting extra content. The article itself just seems to repeat itself over and over, with the road testers basically saying the same thing about the car, gearbox etc.
I'll do you a deal and pass judgement again after there's been a few more...
Cheers!

And Bisonhead, you may have noticed some new additions to the bottom and sides of the pages that do just this. We're just rolling it out at the moment so we'll see how that goes.

Am I missing something? All I have at the bottom and sides is the Watch and Bookmark tabs?!?!Cheers,
Dan
Is there a Share tab Im not seeing?

Thinly disguised plug for other "more main stream" Haymarket publications maybe ? [\cynical mode]
Well, from what I can see on the publications quoted as sources (AutoExpress, MSN Cars, Autocar and Car Enthusiast) only one is a Haymarket title. Maybe disengage 'cynical mode' and engage 'humble pie mode' before having a big bite
:-)
(btw, I don't like this new feature either)
I had an idea similar a while back, but that was my own site with links to all the others for a particular car. Though I wasn't writing my own content. It was such a big task on my own I didn't bother doing it.
I would ask what is the purpose though. Don't people already look at other reviews, hence you guys doing a lot of extra work when we already scan the other articles anyway?
And for those that don't have time to look at the other places, what about if they start reading someone else's reviews and decide the PH stuff isn't as good and switch off?
Like I say, not a bad idea, but I wouldn't imagine it's needed. If only there was a PH board or something to run it through first
(Is there a PH board forum opening btw?)

Well, I've just read the Vantage consolidated review page again, and I'm still at a loss as to what it is supposed to add.
You've already written a PH review. Are you trying to justify your opinion by adding validation from other journos? Quite why you'd bother including the drivel from MSN is beyond my understanding, but I genuinely don't see the point of this other than to generate extra content using minimal brain power.
Surely the extra discussion you mention already happens by way of the "Comment" button and resulting thread at the end of the PH review?

Here is my opinion on this;
I don't really care how soon a review is posted. I read Pistonheads because I have been doing so since 2003 as a 17 year old having randomly googled pistonheads and then being pleasantly surprised to see that there was in fact an actual website named as such, and a good one at that. In a weird way, this website feels like an old friend even though I've never met you guys and I live on the other side of the planet (Australia). I like that other websites such as autoblog.com (my other much visited car website) sometimes feature your news and I like that you sometimes feature other sites news. I like the fact that you feature cars we don't get here, and take an interest sometimes in ones we do that you don't. Please don't feel the need to ever break stories when you haven't got all the facts - keep up your good work.
Ali.

I read this article last night, before I'd read the Aston Martin piece it was about and didn't find it at all clear.
The Aston Martin article was fine, although it seems like PH are uploading more stories than they used to, unfortunately it seems to be heading more towards quantity over quality.
