Surely you can negotiate using examples from other main dealers like anyone else would....

Is the extra 18bhp really worth the hassle ?

Tried that - Apparently acording to the garage - these cars -
1. Dont exist -
2. are without warranty cos they have not been serviced
3. Not from hyundai dealers (some are some aren't) - you pay more atHyundai - I'll accept that
4 are private sales (I excluded those from my search)

They continue to insist the price was correct and have given me evidence.
They are willing to give me £200 as a goodwill gesture.

Its looking increasingly like I've been shafted. - future rule - record all conversations.

As it happens I'm quite happy with the 110's performance, but that has never been the issue. The issue has always been I was told it was 128 and I bought it based on that. Then there is the secondary issue of the gearbox.

So i am looking at doing the return as per mentioned - well done that man. Funny how nobody has mentioned that to me.

They have a 2013 March in stock that was £500 more than the sticker on mine. Trying to negotiate a straight swap.

If you can't buy a comparable cars through the network of main dealers for anywhere near the price of your lesser speced model, do you mind explaining how their examples of 128 Styles are over priced? 'Over priced' in the sense that you don't want to pay that much for one maybe, but if you cannot find comparable cars for less then they are bang on the money.

Please listen to yourself. You're moaning that you didn't get a deal that going from the above was too good to be true anyway. I don't doubt that the salesman said it was a 128BHP, true be told he probably doesn't care about cars and doesn't know what a BHP is. It sucks, but if it was a deal breaker then you should have checked, its on a sticker on the door shut for god sake!

Their sticker price for a 110 Acttive comes in at page 44 of 48 on autotrader. However those on the same page are all 2013's not 2012.

So there are 43 pages of cars with a cheaper Sticker price than theirs - that to me is overpriced.

After negotiation - there were still 14 pages of 1 year old cars with sticker price (all from trade) cheaper than what I paid.

So I base the 'overpriced' statement on that.

As for the sticker - well I know that now.

Long story but I'll try to keep it to the salient facts.

Went looking for a 1 year oldish Hyundai i30 Style 128.

I found an Active that was in the right price range, but not knowing the difference in spec was told basically climate, auto lights and wipers, folding mirrors and few other bits n bobs.

At some point I cannot remember when I asked if it was 128hp (as opposed to the lower powered 110. Me thinking each model was available in both (turns out Style is only 128 and Active only 110).

The answer I got was it was the 128.

I negotiated the price based on this and ended up with 1200 off the sticker price.

Picked it up a week later and got it home. Then noticed on the door jamb that the model was 110 hp. I immediately rang the garage back saying. This was a problem and that it was not what was said I was buying.

No paperwork mentions 110, but neither does it mention 128.
Currently dealing with the garage so don't want to mention any names at this stage.

As it happens I am ok with how the car performs, but its not the point. I was sold a seriously over priced car based on eroneous information.

e.g. 14 pages of cars on Autotrader from Traders with sticker price lower that what I eventually negotiated. Only on page 44 of 48 in autotrader does a car match my sticker price and that is a 2013 not a 2012.

Like I said the matter is being investigated, but I suspect it may come down to 'my word against his' situation, but as i already knew 110's were 1500-2k less than 128's why would I negotiate on a car that was so seriously overpriced as to be set at a 128hp ballpark.

Any advice?

p.s. to cap it all - it needs a new gearbox - 1 year old and 11k miles.
Are you actually being serious?

Have you ever considered acting like an adult and taking responsibility for your own actions. Even bad ones?? idea

people need to man up, as all dealers are liars and cheats (apparently) why did you take his word, end of the day you thought you'd shafted him and he shafted you, you bought (by the sounds) a car they couldn't give away due to the huge price reduction

I assume, from the number of page results, that that's a nationwide search.

Try doing one more locally and see how they compare.

Car prices vary from area to area.

Yes it would have been prudent to complete some basic research at a later date if necessary.

BUT if a clear representation was made by the sales person then this forms part of the contract. Whether it is ascertainable at a later date is irrelevant. If the sales person said 'I don't know', this is the OPs fault for not investigating.

Just to clarify, the OP is claiming he was mis-sold a car, because he thought it was something that the manufacturer doesn't build, and that a quick glance at a sticker in the driver's door shut would have clarified anyway...?

Gotcha.

Golf GT TDi MK4. Turned up to look at the car. Similarly priced to other 150PS models. Asks seller the horsepower and gets told its 150PS. This one hasnt got the walnut trim or centre rear headrest but still moves. Purchases car. Gets home and finds its actually a 130PS. Wouldn't you be pissed off?

OP - Surely by offering you 200 GWG they have admitted some sort of negligence?

I'd always make sure I knew where, on the vehicle, to find the relevant information. Never trust what a dealer tells you. In the OP's defence though, the problem with the Hyundai i30 is that it's nigh on impossible to find anything anywhere on the car that indicates the engine size or power. I know this as the OH is currently driving an i30 which her work hired for her until she's eligible for a company car or car allowance and the damned thing is slower than continental drift but drinks like an entire stag party. We tried to find the spec but drew a blank.
open the drivers door, sit in the drivers seat but leave the door open and you will see there is a silver sticker near the switch for the courtesy light with the trim level and engine info.
