That's nothing to do with leasing, if you're driving 5k miles a year in a diesel and the DPF fails, what does that have to do with the method through which you acquired the car?
Sorry but what is a DPF?rich12 said:
My point was that obviously it isn't covered if it fails whereas if you bought it say cash would it be covered through warranty?
As I said, I have no idea but just wondered if it is something people think about when leasing a diesel to do >5k miles a year/
Maintenance isn't included but the car would be under exactly the same manufacturer's warranty as a purchased car.As I said, I have no idea but just wondered if it is something people think about when leasing a diesel to do >5k miles a year/
If anything you're probably in a (slightly) better position as you'd have the funder to go into bat for you, because they would want their car back in a good state.
If a DPF fails within 2 years and 10k miles, regardless of use, I would expect substantial goodwill at the very least, if not an outright replacement.

The reason for my question was that before I leased the petrol Qashqai for my misses, I was considering the diesel one (wasn't aware the 1.6 petrol was available) but in the quotation email they sent me a PDF regarding the DPF saying it will not be covered if it failed. If anything you're probably in a (slightly) better position as you'd have the funder to go into bat for you, because they would want their car back in a good state.

I have no idea how likely it is to go or even how much it would cost but as she does a 6 mile round journey and the petrol worked out at £2 more a month, it was a no brainer for me.
You have to be pretty quick with these deals don't you?
I was looking at E class deals 2 weeks ago and anything decent has gone.
Do they get monthly allocations from the manufacturers, ie will there be some tasty deals starting tomorrow? I fancy a new C class saloon, but the cheap deals are all on the old C Class coupe.

I was wondering how the brokers and dealers were covering themselves by leasing diesel cars on low mileage deals when the manufacturer's own advice is to avoid short journeys yet a low mileage lease suggests the customer is going to be doing short journeys!I have no idea how likely it is to go or even how much it would cost but as she does a 6 mile round journey and the petrol worked out at £2 more a month, it was a no brainer for me.
Do you thing the average customer is going to be making the effort to take their diesel for a long fast blast every week? I mean, it may push them over their mileage limit!

With a mileage charge of 7.2p is it not more a case of keeping the lease price low, expecting people to go over? On a related note, is there normally a maximum number of excess miles? I am considering the Tiguan or Octavia.
That was my plan when I original signed up for a Golf R before we got fked over and I had a moan on Radio4 about it.It worked out cheaper to take the car on 5000 miles pa than paying for 8k or 10k up front.

Some providers have a tiered approach, I.e. So the first X,000 excess miles cost 6p and next Y,000 cost 10p. However I don't belive that's the case for the Tiguan deal which seems to be a flat rate with no specified maximum limitjjr1 said:

It's all in there somewhere - basically everyone ordered Golf Rs on leases as they were so cheap but it turn out the dealers and brokers were putting private individuals through on business only Sole Traders leases. VW finance pulled the plug and we had our orders cancelled. I moaned a bit on PH and was asked to do an interview for Radio 4 You and Your's about it - eventually VW had to admit they're not allowed to discriminate against purchasers but by then I'd got fed up. A Sales Director from VW had called me up to "explain the situation" and managed to fk me off royally by being stunningly patronising so I went out and bought a car, as leasing was supposed to be hassle free!
