If you spent 30k cash on a Golf it would seam expensive but a lease deal 6+23 at 300 a month is 8700 over two years with nothing to show at the end does not seam a good deal to me...
this 'nothing to show at the end' winds me up.Man goes in to buy a Golf at £30k, uses it for 2 years and then sells it for 35% loss (that's being generous, if a car keeps 65% of its value after 2 years it's doing well). And that's privately selling at good money not trading in.
So he 'spent' £10,500 and after selling his car he 'has nothing to show for it'
Other chap leases a £30k Golf, uses it for 2 years and then gives it back all for the cost of 29% of the value.
So he 'spent' £8,700 and after handing his car back he 'has nothing to show for it'
(except the extra £1,800 in his bank)
Ah!! wait people who buy cars in cash keep their cars longer... ok so after 4 years its now worth 40% of new so now lost £18k with nothing to show for it. Meanwhile the other chap has enjoyed 2 new cars in the same period for £17k (but saved a few quid on no service costs and no MOT prep).
At the end of a lease or when you sell the car you 'bought' (let's not add the interest on top of the depreciation costs if you borrowed the money to 'buy it') you'll have nothing to show for it.

If you bought that £30k car on finance over two years, even with a £5k deposit and low ~6% interest you'd lose an additional £1600 in interest in those two years. / £66 every month in interest alone. Well I've gone and placed an order for a 520d Luxury Touring Auto, plus a few extras.
6+23 @ £409 per month, 15k mileage and 9.9p excess.
Was through ewfs but then my local dealer matched it, and loaned me a car for the 6 week wait until delivery- this was a decent deal wasn't it?
(waits to get shot down)

Really ? A golf ??
It's just a mid sized hatchback
And I hasten to add I have had golfs in the past.
Fair enough. But would you spend £6500 to lease one over two years?Really ? A golf ??

Indeed. Come to think of it - I've owneda dozen or so cars in the last decade and I don't have anything to show for any of them - the current cars don't count for anything because I'm still pouring money into having them.Man goes in to buy a Golf at £30k, uses it for 2 years and then sells it for 35% loss (that's being generous, if a car keeps 65% of its value after 2 years it's doing well). This thread is not for discussing whether or not leasing is good or bad. It is a place for people to post good lease deals!!!
you are correct and i hate it when people de-rail threads as well, sorry!I've helped a few of my mates into cars (focus st, golf gtd, clk 250 amg, slk diesel, golf r - almost the full PH set!) saving them money purely on the sums above so hopefully we can just keep posting deals...
here's a way to save some money (these were sub £300 for a whiles early this year then jumped back to £400... now:

our company has fitted lots of chargers for these things and as long as you realise they'll get 50-60mpg in the real world they are a very nice car for the money...

It have just seen this deal where the Ford Focus ST-3 is very competitively priced, compared to the Ford Fiesta ST-3 from the same company.

C4 Cactus - funny looking car, but the price looks OK for a mid-sized family car - decent mileage allowance too.

Well said. Motoring is a cost. You just have to decide what is in you budget for the period of time you have the vehicle. I usually buy and end up spending £3k a year in depreciation/running costs. So these lease deals circa £250/m are worthwhile for me. I'm over mileage with 6 months left to go on my lease. I'll get lumbered with another £1500 in excess charges if I keep driving it.3+11, 10k, £110+VAT

It might be worth me using this for the remainder of the car lease, then get myself another lease car in November and hand it over to the OH ( basically for free) for the winter to keep her car out of the weather.

My point is purely about £30 k !
And once upon a time I was a huge Vw fan, having had beetles, all manner of air and water cooler campers, polos, golfs, Passat. So I'm not exactly against Vw !!!
But being a tight Yorkshireman I'd rather save, pay cash and buy nearly new when the car has lost 40-50% of its value.

I am looking at leasing 3 Mercedes on a personal lease for the family. For ease, I would like to get them all through one company...
Does anyone have any advice on who to go with?

Thanks,
Mercedes Corporate did the best deal for me last year (E350 Premium Plus Estate £287+VAT 6+23), better than the best internet advertised deals and much, much better then the dealers could do.Does anyone have any advice on who to go with?
