Been reading this thread with interest - a number of mates have signed up singing the merits of leasing and how "cheap" it is.

I think the number one criteria is you want a brand new car. If you were going to buy new anyway, they make great sense. If you weren't, there are more cost effective ways of motoring.

Leasing works if you want to buy a brand new car on finance.

In certain cases, leasing a new car is still cheaper than buying a 2/3 year old version of the same car on finance.

That's the value.

Golf R and many BMWs are cases in point.

Leasing is also worth bearing in mind if you are buying cash, as the subsidies from the manufacturers can sometimes outweigh the cash price.

Please note this is not on all occasions , simply that it should not be dismissed as the work of the devil and should be looked at as part of your research in trying to achieve the best price.

Depending on the excess mileage fees that could still be a pretty good deal. It is the old model XF though.

That looks expensive to me and doubt you will get many companies doing a cheap deal on a car like that.

So I guess you will be a bigfish in a small pond.

I think you mean have use of a car. You're not buying it if you're leasing.

Does anyone know if this is a good Touareg deal?

VW Touareg
3.0 262HP R-Line Auto
£329.95+VAT per month
6+23 with 8k per annum

Total cost £11,482.26 (after VAT) for 2 years.

Any good? Doesn't seem bad for the miles to me?

But of a moot point but unless your total debt free incl Mortgage then you are financing the car and not a cash buyer.

Freedom are advertising that Touareg for £325 inc vat (private) with £1951 down, 8000 PA.

Lots of other mileage and upfront options available.

Sounds like a lot of car for the money to me.

But financing a car and taking out a mortgage means you are borrowing to buy. When you lease you are signing a contract to rent.

Fully aware that, hence I never said it. My point was that leasing should not be dismissed out of hand as an alternative to buying with cash.

Shouldn't the general debate on leasing be kept to the various other leasing threads, keeping this one free to only post and discuss the best leasing deals?

Doesn't really work like that I'm afraid.
