Has the Cat & Fiddle become more dangerous since they tried to make it safer?

The number of people that slow to 30 for the cameras is mind blowing.

I now try to see how close to an average of 50 I can maintain over the whole route - still plenty of opportunity to overtake the 30mph'ers without exceeding the average.

Prefer the A54 Congleton route anyway.

It's certainly made it not worth driving on if you're after entertainment.

Depends which car. Lots of fun in the Volvo V70 Diesel estate smile

Haven't driven it yet... it's on the list along with most of the highlands, the Isle of Man and the Ring whistle

Its only popular for hooning because of its proximity to populous areas. If it was in Wales it would be very average.

Its only dangerous statistically because bikers crash on it. Take them out of the numbers and its a perfectly fine bit of tarmac.

Yep same as the A5012 via gellia road which is the second most dangerous road.

I drove it on Monday afternoon for the 1st time since they put the cameras up. Its completely pointless now as a driving road with the 50mph specs monitored average. I just pottered along as if my car was merely a white good for getting from to A to B, so I guess that's a win for the authorities frown

Yes but the articles claim that in doing that the road safety stats havent improved so maybe driving a white good makes you concentrate less?

I went on it the other day for the first time, in a loaded Transit van, 50MPH average...

We used to live the other side of Teggs Nose in Langley, and my sister had her first job over in Buxton, as a live in carer in an old age peoples home. She was learning to drive, and her shifts were 6 days on 3 days off, so my mum, would sit in our avenger, and let her drive back in the rain in the dark, with us younger kids in the back (no seat belts in them days), even in the snow, whilst me sister was encourage to rag the arse off the Hillman's lethargic 1.6 8V.

Then Mum would drive us back. My memories of my mother's driving is that in the 70's she had 2 modes of driving. Full on the accelerator, and full on the brakes.

If you want danger, the back roads which take you through Macc Forest, in the dark with my mum, would be more dangerous than the rest of the journey.

We have the inevitable clash of the idiots on the comments page. The, "Think of the children," brigade wanting curfews for young drivers versus someone antagonising them saying there would be no accidents if everyone drove at 90mph.

Meh it's still fantastic fun in the eunos. Just go slowly on the straights and make up for it in the bends.

What; you mean that draconian limits and speed cameras don't save lives and aren't the best thing since sliced bread? rolleyes

The money wasted on these average cameras could've filled a lot of potholes.

Did they sort out the "there's an alternate route between the average speed cameras" issue?

Why not take out everyone who crashes from the numbers, then it'd be the safest road in the world...

Or, to put it another way, why on earth would you remove some of the deaths when talking about how dangerous it is?
