Sorry - one of "those" threads but I'm struggling to understand what just happened to me.

Drove to work this morning along the same road I drive every day - a 40MPH road with several side roads leading off it. Bimbling along at the speed limit and a newish black Mercedes pulled out of one of the side roads, drives along behind me. We get to a small roundabout. As I pull away (in the correct lane, not cutting across lanes) he immediately starts beeping his horn and flashing his lights at me. I'm keeping up with traffic, but not thrashing my car as it's still stone cold. This continues for some time. I put my hands up to gesture "What?" because I'm genuinely confused and get the middle finger back. This still continues a little longer until I turn off the road when I get more obscene gestures, lights, and beeping.

I'm really confused. I honestly did nothing wrong, didn't obstruct him, didn't cut him off, did the speed limit. Is it just possible I encountered (to use a technical term) a tosser?

I saw which road he came out of and I know his car was a black Merc C class with a personalised plate - deciding whether to go knock on his door later and ask what was wrong, or go scope out which is his house and report him to the police or something - I don't know.

Check the back of your car for an 'All Mercedes drivers are tossers' sticker.

He probably won't have a clue what you are talking about, as he probably behaves like this on half a dozen occasions a day, move on.

Maybe he has this tattooed on the inside of his eyelids, and thought you had a sticker saying "all Mercedes drivers are tossers" on the back of your car?

Have you checked the back of your car? Fog light on, brake lights not working, dead body hanging out of the boot.

Maybe he was trying to warn you about something.

There's the reason - you weren't going fast enough for him and he was too much of a pussy to overtake.

I didn't notice the unmissable smell of seized / hot brakes when I got to work and I only replaced my brakelight bulbs a couple of weeks ago and know they're both working.. I even used my indicators when I was supposed to.

Honestly if I'd done something stupid I wouldn't have even questioned it but I was driving like a christian motorist this morning.

You didn't mention whether or not you gave the correct signals at the roundabout to let this bloke know which way you were going.

I was going straight over the roundabout, and did signal on the exit, but the guy was flashing and beeping me as soon as I started to enter the roundabout..

Sticking to the speed limit but making progress through corners and accelerating briskly is taken by the knuckle-dragging fraternity as taunting them, effectively saying "My car's faster than yours (it's never the driver in their minds), I could let you go as fast as you want but I'm choosing to keep you at the speed limit."

The 40mph everywhere brigade are completely confused by the idea of doing 30 in a 30 and then accelerating away when it changes to NSL. When being tailgated by this mob, I find they don't try to keep up - they simply haven't seen you until they're 6" from your bumper and it would never occur to them to increase the gap.

Some people are just idiots. I pulled onto the motorway earlier with a Passat Estate in the outside lane a few car lengths back on my offside rear 3/4 doing below the speed limit.

I sped up to pull into the outside lane to avoid getting blocked in by a car in the middle lane.

The Passat then gunned it, seemed like absolutely full chat to block me, so I accelerated in turn and pulled in front of him with a large gap to spare.

He started flashing his lights and gave me the finger, then shortly after forgot why he was going so quickly, slowed back down to below the speed limit and carried on sitting in the outside lane with a queue behind him with now with nothing in the middle lane.

Idiot.
