Does any one have any unusual motoring habits/superstitions they'd like to share with the group? Mine is always trying to park in the same spot in the supermarket car park. Take this morning in Sainsburys, empty car park, p*!"ing down with rain, could have parked next to the entrance, but I still park in my usual bay, 100 yards from the entrance. Is it just me?.........

I always park in the same spot at the supermarket, miles away from anyone. Not sure if its superstition though, just dont want a ding in my door. I do however have my 'own' space at the train station that I use weekdays. Again parked where there is least risk of denting. Every now and again it does freak me out if there is someone in it. Kind of ruins my routine in a morning. Strangely when there is someone parked in my space something else odd usually happens to my routine. I also like to use the same pump at the petrol station too.

mild OCD maybe!

Same as the above really, park in the same space at work and try to use the same pump all the time.

Turning the radio and air con off before I turn the engine off. Parking in a preferred spot at work even though there are loads of others. I'm sure there are more...

Cleaning the windscreen and wipers before I set off if I haven't driven for a day or two.

Similar one to this. My Audi A2 has the standard key fob with a flip out blade, always insert so when the ignition is on the allows the key to bend up not down. In this case bits not really a superstition it's because although the latch on my key is fine if I use my wife's keys the catch is worn and the keys will hinge down and hit my knee and generally get in the way.

Have driven some dodgy cars in my time, in fact, it was normal to have to do a routine on arriving at your destination. Try to park on a down ward slope, Leave engine running and keep revs at around 2500, lights off, radio off, heater fan off, interior light off. Run engine for at least 3 mins or no way would car start without a bump. Then when you came to start it if so much as you flicked the radio on, flat as the proverbial and this is not a lifetime ago, only 20 years. Car reliability really has moved on.

No-one is ever allowed to touch my windows ever. If they are misted up, I'll wait for the engine to warm so I can demist them. Kids get shouted at for drawing on them and the dog gets told to fk off for rubbing her nose on them!

What use are your headlights if you drive everywhere backwards?

I always thank my car before switching the engine off.

If im working early (ie its dark / cold outside) I greet the car to wake it up gently.

Never put the ignition key in and start the car straight away. Always turn the ignition on and leave it whike I put my seatbelt on, then start the car.

Always use the 'follow me home' lights.

Does this make as little difference to your family as it does mine?

starting the engine standing outside the car so I can hear the lovely rumble as it thrums into life, before climbing in and driving off. Someone saw me doing this in the supermarket car park the other day; pointed and laughed at me frown
