Unidentified Speed camera detector fitted in front grill

Guys

Hopefully I am posting in the correct section? If so I would appreciate views on the enclosed speed camera detector fitted inside the front grill of a BMW 5 Series-see antenna on photo to the right of the inner front grill. This came with the car which I bought second hand and which is wired into the cabin and which gives a bleeping warning of fixed speed cameras only. My issue is that the system seems to work randomly even on the same camera and more so when it is raining. Its always works on motorway variable speed cameras. Does anyone know what type of system this is and why it only works periodically and is there any way of updating the database.

Looks like it could be a Snooper S3-R with the external laser and radar detector

I have one that is fitted behind the grill and the base unit is up by my rear view mirror..
