A wealthy neighbour if mine recently wandered into a RR showroom and ended up buying one of these in impulse when he saw the waiting lists for RR's and RR Sports.

It never occurred to him it would have a four pot diesel. Imagine his surprise when it was delivered and fired up.

Don't think he'll have it for too long.
Just about sums up the kind of owners of these cars. It's nothing personal of these kinds of vehicles I'm sure they're nice to drive but whenever I see one I can't help make assumptions based on the person behind the wheel.

We all assume people driving cars ie BMW and now Audi drivers total cocks what do assume Evoque drivers are. let's see how wide or near of the mark you are.

I've been looking at these recently, I'm amazed how well they hold their value, even on big miles.

I thought they were lovely cars inside, and granted they are 40k (for dynamic spec) but looking at used values you wouldn't loose a huge amount over 2 years.

Definitely high on my list when I change cars.

11.4% better fuel economy.
Probably on the computer-controlled rolling road that diesnt resemble any road known to man...
Due to its 'association' with the talentless, style-over-substance Victoria Beckham, I class this car as 'motoring smeg' (sorry to any delicate Beckham family readers, although to be fair they'll only be looking at the pictures....)

Sorry if i sound a bit dumb here, but in the report it says that even at motorway speeds the gearbox doesnt engage 9th gear. If thats the case, then whats it doing there?

Is it for when you find yourself on the famous 'Everest downhill motorway' and just feel that 8th is 'running out of legs'???

"Using the paddles in manual mode does take a little time to master."

You don't say!

Surely the paddles are going to be utterly redundant for 99% of owners.

Isn't there a contradiction going on here: with this rate of gearbox development & ratio proliferation, shouldn't critics be telling the car makers to focus on making engines that operate at peak efficiency in a small rev range. I realise that the rise of diesels which do their best work in a spread of only 1500 rpm shows that this trend is already established, but if the market is demanding 9 and 10 speed trannies ( http://www.autoevolution.com/news/hyundai-10-speed-transmission-coming-in-2014-39156.html) then the decline of the flexible engine should only accelerate.

For the sake of a decent ICE, let's start a campaign for the return of the GM400 3-speeder and 'four on the floor'.

Not really a MY14 thing I presume but I just noticed that weight figure. If it's correct then that's quite impressive for a relatively large, well-specced 4WD luxobox, especially considering LR's form in producing not-exactly-lightweight vehicles.
+1 My thoughts exactly. Very impressive weight figure.

9 speedy gearbox on a 2000cc engine, crikey just got a legacy est with 4 speed auto bloody thing never knows what gear i want always changing, yes 9 yrs old but surely with 9 cogs to select the same thing must apply unless it can go from 5th to 2nd rather than keep changing- any guys or gals out their driven a 9 speeder and having any issues in real world driving, not driving around west london taking 15 minutes to get to the school which is 800 metres away?

I suspect they quote weights with a steel roof. I believe the panoramic roof is an option which will add quite a few kg - on the bigger Range Rovers it adds something like 60-70kg to published weights. I assume they do this to keep model weights down to help keep fuel economy numbers up and CO2 numbers down to squeeze into lower tax bands.

What are you finding the main differences to be? Get a decent deal?
I'm tempted to move the same way for my next car

Factory seats or aftermarket? Very sporty for a 4x4!

Interior looks a massive leap forward over what I've experienced in the original RR Sport (which I felt was a little low rent tbh).

The only association Mrs Beckham had with the Evoque was that she gave some advice on a ltd edition interior. I think some people think she designed the whole car

Fully aware of that my friend ; my allusion was more to the fact that she is famous for being famous, rather than any natural (singing, designing) talent she may think she has.
It's quite obvious that she's not a Gordon Murray, Peter Stevens (gender aside) etc, and that the use of her name is a marketing tool.
Can't wait for the edition with Swarowski headlights, Denby Pottery switches, Ekorn Stressless recliner seats, etc

I believe the box can skip gears.
