I Have a 996 GT2 and I could never imagine stepping into these Play Station cars. Not for any price. There like having a girlfriend with Implants, why play with plastic toys when you can have the real thing !
Manuel, Rear wheel drive, No TC and just a sensible right foot
A 911 GT2, Boobs and No TC in a post. This is Pistonheads! Manuel, Rear wheel drive, No TC and just a sensible right foot
No mention of coke, hookers or MX5s.

I spent today comparing 35 profile tyres against 50 profile tyres. The steady state grip was about the same, the transient stability was hugely improved with the lower profile tyres. Same pattern, same tread compound, same car, same surface. Lower profile tyre was clearly easier to drive.
Did it communicate the transition as well as the higher profile? If the car's grip has previously relied on high-speed bumps being dealt with by a 50 profile tyre, then simply buning on 35s may reduce grip in a lot of situations.

Fair enough. I like all the modern turbo petrol engines I've driven they are frugal and torquey with throttle response that's good enough for me. Naturally aspirated have a slightly better sound/throttle response like for like but they are thirstier and need revving right out to make good progress. Everyone's different!
Hmmm...Becs runs a MkV Golf GTi - 197bhp 2.0 turbo-petrol. I run an FD2 Civic Type-R - 222bhp 2.0 n/a petrol.Guess which of us gets better daily mpg and better long-run mpg?!? Yep...the n/a engine with the more power!!!
SS7
I think this whole "need for speed" thing is getting out of hand.
With the unrealistic and idiotic speed limits in this country, most of us only need 1st and 2nd gears to be in trouble with plod...
Modern cars make speed so easy and numb that we forget that we're in over a ton of metal hurtling around at speeds that will kill.
I drive an Accord Type-R. It's getting old and isn't as fast as many modern super hatches, but the feeling of involvement and effort needed to get (and keep) it rowing along far outweighs the actual mph that I'm doing.
A lot of us are now looking to older, lighter, more involving cars for the rush which modern cars just can't give us.
Fast shouldn't mean scary - FEELING fast should be a little bit scary but not beyond control, right?

Very good point - modern cars are clearly faster than 10 or 20 years ago but in most cases far more insulated, so the sensation of speed is lessened, so you need more bhp/tonne to get the same 'hit'...Kai
...and if you feel like you can't control a car, then have you overstretched yourself?!?
I also agree.
That is why my 3rd gen Camaro Z28 was a lot slower but more apt to bite than my faster and far more capable 4th gen Z28.
It's why my Corvette C4 was way more fun than my C5 Z06, despite not much more than half the power.
It's why I like Yank muscle cars - fast but retaining the hooligan streak.
A drive should be about the overall event and fun and entertainment, not simply how fast and capable a car is. we#'ve all experienced that "Whoooo-aa" moment in a drive and had a twitchy bum and a bead of sweat and then continued with a grin and a shot of adrenalin.

Light car, a n/a engine and an LSD.
There's some incredible technology around nowadays but maybe we can get back to cars that need to be driven and reward driver input, as opposed to replacing it with a button to activate DSC or whatever?
Good mpg is another bonus of low kerb weight. My old 3 series has a 2.8l six pot, with over 240bhp, but still manages 45mpg.

My TVR Cerbera with a 6.9ltr LS3 on ITB's (565bhp/620lbs/ft) is fast and scary, i have had it six years and i still marvel at the way it can suck the horizon in.
It makes 450Lbs at 2000rpm, so tail slides are compulsory and routine, not an air bag or sensor of any kind in sight!
That sounds truly awesome in the true dictionary definition sense of the word. Have you been stealing my dreams by any chance? It makes 450Lbs at 2000rpm, so tail slides are compulsory and routine, not an air bag or sensor of any kind in sight!

If every member on here could be taken down a regular road whilst sat in a GT2 RS....third gear all the way to the red-line...
Interesting article. If you provide the car, come to a convenient venue and leave it with me for a few weeks, I'll give my opinion. Will it feel more impressive in a straight line than a 1000 sports bike?

I would have a go at that, I have got to 102mph in 6.8secs in my motor at a drag strip, I have also achieved a genuine 202mph, and as for super bike quick, 10.6 qtr...I own a gsxr 1000 k6 too.
