Signum 2.8 V6 Turbo. Only the badge and a subtle second exhaust tells it apart from a 1.9 diesel version. Same engine as the Vectra VXR, 250bhp, 155mph top speed in a much more understated looking car. Pretty sure they remap to 300+bhp of FWD pleasure too.

Quantify it then, not just with a throwaway statement.
You quantify your statement.

Let's take a look at the most popular selling car of the last 4 years (according to SSMT data) the Ford Fiesta, the fastest fiesta (excluding the ST or whatever it is) is 8.4 seconds. The Ford Focus was also in the top three for the last three years and the fastest I could find for that was 8.9 seconds. The fastest Vauxhall Corsa I could find was 7.6 seconds but the majority of specs were far above 8 seconds with the highest being 17.6

You can easily go on and on with the most popular cars.

It was a question, not a statement.

Leon 20vt?

0-60 7.7s
Top speed 143mph
Power 180bhp

Potential for over 200bhp with a simple remap, alloys and a twin tail pipe are the only giveaways...surely qualifies as a sleeper?

The Swiss market got a supercharged 2.8l VR6 4 wheel drive version of that car, with 280BHP. The SEAT Leon V6 2.8 4K:

Don't be pedantic because you can't come up with any evidence to support your view.

This
So this http://www.carpages.co.uk/guide/bmw/bmw-5-series-5... is faster than the majority of everyday vehicles you see on the road?
Is a question, I am interested to find the answer.
Obviously faeces in your sandwich too.

But even the slowest 5 Series is likely faster than Average Jo's hatchback, in fact the slowest 5 Series stands a pretty good chance of being faster than the vast majority of every day vehicles you see on the road. So you'd have to be pretty dim to not think an expensive looking new BMW isn't going to be fast.

A sleeper would be something like a 1990's Citreon Xantia but with enough power to level peg with your pseudo supercar.

Somebody obviously shat in your sandwich yesterday, hopefully you are more happy today.
8.1 sec 0-60mph and 141mph top speed are pretty quick in my book. Not sure the majority of cars on the road are going to be close to this performance. In fact this kind of 0-60mph time was hot hatch territory and the top speed a league above. And lets face it, there are many more humdrum variants of a car out there than there are top spec hatches.

If you exclude things like GTI, RS, ST, VXR, MPS variants, then I suspect 8.1sec 0-60mph and 141mph top speed is quicker than almost all the remaining for the mass market city, hatch and compact saloon/family car market.

20 years ago when I had my 2.9 xr4x4 that did 0 to 60 in 8.2 secs & I thought it was quick at the time but that's a long time ago & last year when I had my old 520d tourer that was supposed to do 0 to 60 in 8.3 secs & 139 top end but in reality to me it felt like it could never match either figure.

I do agree that 8.1 secs to 60 in this day & age isn't really slow its just cars are generally a lot quicker than they used to be nowadays I think.

I always considered 10s to be the 'norm' in the family saloon level and anything 8s or so was quite decent (then 6s was quick and anything under was fscking fast).

I'm not sure if my car is faster than it looks or not. 7.5s to 60 for a Mondeo estate. I'd wouldn't say its that quick but it seems to surprise a few people so maybe it is faster than people expect.

I think today 'quick' cars are certainly a lot quicker. But there are still plenty of normal cars out there which are only marginally faster than older cars.

Just think, apart from the very fastest SUV's, 8.1sec to 60mph is far quicker than any of them. This is true for 90-95% of MPV's and all vans and van based vehicles.

City cars and compact hatches are all going to be slower barring a couple of exceptions. Be it an Aygo, C2, !Up, even a hot Twingo is likely to struggle once speed builds.

For example, this is a fairly normal car that you see quite a few of.

I can't see any performance stats listed, but do any of the variants offer up better than 8.1sec 0-60mph and 141mph top speed?

Some good examples there & I had a Audi A3 as a loaner the other day the 1.6 diesel version & that did 0 to 60 in 10.7 secs so even though it does amaze me personally but yes 8.1 secs is still pretty quick even in this day & age.

I knew what it was when I spotted the red and white badge. My buddy, driving his 330d, was horrified as to what had just left him for dead on the slip road.
Good shout. Maybe not in this colour - maybe a nice suttle silver with some shoopping in the back.

850 and V70 T5 is another one - I often dont know if its a t5 until I actually see the badge as some look dull as dishwater.

I vote for the Golf Edition 30.

It looks like a regular Golf GTI, but the only one I've seen was way, way quicker than the standard power rating suggests. I'm sure someone on here said they had one producing 310bhp.

i've actually done 7 sec 0-60 pulling away in 2nd, 1st is pointless.
