They come with a 2 year warranty at that power level.

It's just a car developed at the end of its life to go around a specific track very quickly. A fast time no doubt, but just so irrelevant. Drive this side by side with a regular GTR (up the boost on the standard car to match the power) and I doubt there'd be very much in it.

The GTR has always completely missed the point for me - wrong engine, wrong gearbox, wrong set of priorities (in my opinion).

Very impressive though.
By your own definition this is a race car.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by the "point"?
I can see how it is easy to draw the conclusion that the GT-R is too hi-tech for its own good and so less fun somehow, than something with a manual gearbox and honest simplicity. I get this - I am a huge fan of old cars ( and VERY old cars) for these reasons.

But I also think the GT-R is one of the most impressive cars I have ever driven. And i've driven some exotic stuff - 12C's, 458's etc. The GT-R is stupendously fast. Grips and grips and yet, IMO, is still full of character and very involving. It feels like a piece of military hardware. Honed. Built for a purpose.

And I have never driven a car that leaps out of corners the way the GT-R does. Its because of 4WD, torque vectoring and a gearbox full of close stacked ratios and a speedy double clutch. It just grips and powers out of bends, always seemingly with the perfectly matched gear available, and just flies ! I think this is the key to its Ring' time ( if you are into that kind of thing ) as it seems to leap out of corners and gain metres of advantage on every corner. Loads of traction and with a gentle wiggle to make the driver feel like he's a god. Drive one of these are you are Vettel in a Red Bull, taking a few metres extra exiting every bend.

Watch Harris drive the Litchfield GT-R in his R8, 911 and GT-R video to get the idea. And a track is a good place to really understand the car.

I am not a great driver. But I feel like I'm a much better driver each time I have managed to drive a GT-R, which is a few times now.

Doesn't actually have side-to-side torque vectoring - only the centre diff is active, so it's actually less advanced in that respect than the old V-Spec R33s and R34s which could split torque actively across the rear diff.

How can the GTR be SOOO quick?! One car I HAVE to own, would then take it to Litchfield for a Stage 5 power upgrade.

I always think where could I drive a car like that on the public road?

2nd gear 50mph, overtake 3 seconds later 100mph wobble

Mental car.

It was a joke levelled at the Switzer R900 vs. 918 comparison.

The NISMO GT-R on the other hand, is no joke.

Yes, yes, N-ring lap times blah blah blah, but to get within touching distance of a SR8/918/P1 with 'only' 600hp and about an extra 400kg or so (over the hybrids) to lug around is seriously impressive.
If you call touching distance over 12 secs and it ran non road legal tyres and different aero. It is very yawn from my arm chair

Easily this is only 50/60bhp more that the original and about 20 seconds faster a lap faster so the majority of the time increase has come from chassis improvements. As said with circa 850bhp this would easily beat the 918s time in my opinion and do something around the 6:50 mark which at less than £150k all in is quite frankly amazing. I have seen 0-60 quoted at circa 2.5 seconds with "only" the stock 600bhp really is an awesome piece of engineering.
IIRC, I saw the original 500 BHP tested at 0-60 in at least one of the American magazines using launch control. Did they get rid of the launch control feature? I'd be surprised if this wasn't quicker than 2.5 to 60.

If you think about it, the 458 Speciale and MP4-12C take 3.0 seconds to reach 60. For the Nissan which weighs substantially more, but with about the same power, to shave over half a second off the cars that cost twice (three times?) the price is impressive!

Pretty much only an Ariel Atom 500 or a tuned car built for drag racing is quicker.

It baffles me how a car 400kg heavier and 300bhp down is only 11 seconds slower porsche must wonder how the hell they do it...
It's not 400kg heavier. The GT-R is roughly 1730kg DIN, and the Porsche is 1634kg DIN, so it's just 96kg.

Depressingly, even if you owned one of these and drove it in a spirited manner on a Tourist Day at the Ring, there would still be a local in a Mk2 Golf hovering millimeters from your rear bumper.

I'd really like to know the lap time difference between this, and the same car, minus 100/200/300kg(sp, more carbon, strip out the interior, etc).

But either way, the 7:08 lap, that's MEGA!
