SO - WHAT is the story with this mustard yellow reptil-ica of the 2000GT ???

Dan needs to go to Specsavers and 'Automotive re-education camp' in Pyongyang if he really thought that 'thing' was a Toyota 2000GT !!
Looking closer, the pillars are a big giveaway ( super slim pillars on the genuine car ). As is the wiper orientation ( RHD car but what would be LHD wiper orientation for a genuine MF10 Toyota 2000GT ).
Took me a while but the rear wheel is further back on the rep, which is (I think) what makes it look most fishy. Roof line at the rear seems higher too.

In fairness to Dan, he probably didn't have a reference picture to hand when looking at it!
But to be fair, I don't think he should need a reference picture. The 'replica' thing screams WRONG from a small photo on the blog, let alone in real life. He's going to the Nissan Heritage Collection next. What else is going to sail over his head?

Reminds me of the EVO journo who called the externally mounted oil cooler on a KPGC10 Skyline GT-R race car an "Intercooler" last year....

6 hours to build an engine, team of 4, 7 to 10 units per day, that's a minimum of 12 working hours per day and nearer 15 for 10 units. Tough job, or maybe someone's not checking their figures. tongue out

In Japan, buying a Bentley or Rolls Royce is not status enough in RHD form since you can get those on finance.
LHD needs to be imported and you have to fork out the full monty up front - therefore LHD cars are higher in status! It demonstrates real wealth!
Also the drivers side is to the sidewalk making it easier for the chaffeur to enter and exit after having opened the door for the rear-seat passenger!

I'm over in Japan at the moment and 12+ hours is a standard working day. (Not ideal when you're jet lagged)

I got to go to the motorshow yesterday and was impressed with the IDx concepts, the NSX and also the Kode 7 (until I read the price on PH). The show was a lot smaller than 2007, which is the last time I went, but seemed like there were even more visitors - it was rammed!

I've seen plenty of interesting cars - Skyline saloon, lots of Imprezas etc, but also some more interesting European cars, including an Integrale.

The attention to detail within the clean room is astonishing. It's kept at 23 degrees Celsius, plus or minus one degree, all year round. Air pressure is kept consistent and humidity is finely controlled too. The workers wear special fabrics that don't gather dust and only electronic tools are used because compressed air can contaminate the lubricants.
Sounds like what I'd expect at McLaren's Palace of White in Woking, but also typically Japanese.

Double licklick and a cloud9 for good measure! Love KenMeris, especially in full-race form! Never seen any vintage Skyline in-person; must visit Japan!!!
