People keep getting confused and putting the GLA, Q3, X3, Macan all in the same segment - they are not!
GLA, Q3, X1
GLK, Q5, X3, Macan
ML, Q7, X5, Cayenne
etc.
Only thing that surprised me recently was discovering that the Q7=Cayenne, the Q7 always looks about twice the size on the road to me.
This segment should be rationalised, if this is not good enough for your 4x4 needs then go feck off get your fake tan , teeth whiteen arse out of here. smile

I really can't get my head around this new niche. How can adding weight and increasing the ride height be a good thing for a performance road car? It's not like it can go off road, and it is no more practical than the 'normal height' A45. Who buys these things?
There is one advantage to these 'higher' cars.

BADGERS

I hit one the other night on my Countryman. All it did was unclip some lower trim and crack my brake duct. If I was in a standard Mini there would have been no bumper left.

So Badgers.
Priceless!

Must remember that! When anyone asks me a stupid or pointless question, the answer will be "badgers"
Beats my usual retort of "The Belgians"

Just seen the PH O'meter rating; 3.59 at the moment, which is a terrible score.
I wonder if ze Germans read sites like this and wonder where it is all going wrong for them.........

People who want a smallish car but want to sit an extra 2ft higher to lord it over all the peasants in their saloons and hatchbacks.

Until they get dwarfed by a full fat SUV.

Purely style over substance. But it's making the manufacturer's a lot of money!
But surely you could look down on the peasants in the AMG styled oil burner version?

You wouldn't buy such a high performance car unless you are a bit of a petrolhead, so who in their right mind would choose the GLA45 over the A45?

People who don't live in this country. The high powered petrol variants will mostly go abroad. Maybe a few will be bought here for family members of the super rich but I'd wager it'll be more popular in the US and China.

Oh dear Mercedes. The continued debasement and decline of a once proud brand.
They'll be giving away cars as part of a tacky phone-in competition on X factor next... WHAT? They're already doing that?
Oh.

Old news PH??? smile
Damn! Apologies, I appear to have become lost in the sprawling array of Mercedes models and sub-niches. I'm waiting for the CLA to be made two-door and bring back the CLC. Then maybe an SUV version... It's been updated now, story is definitely on the GLA45 AMG Concept. I hope.

Cheers,

Matt

Apologies, the mistake has been addressed now. Of course we try to be as accurate as possible all the time but we're not infallible, especially when you're writing, uploading and checking the copy independently. Or I could blame Mercedes for making too many models... Sorry for any confusion, I'll do my best to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Cheers,

Matt

I wouldn't imagine they could care less what PH thinks. We are not the target market.

I myself would look at one of these and i'm sure plenty more on here would so that's a bit of a broad brush. I'm sure there are some people on here who have just put their orders in for the Macan but I guess there not 'Pistonheads' either.

That's much better, far nicer than the Macan jelly mould that Porsche have just launched.
I'd still go for shooting brake though.

The people that will buy this will be overwhemingly the baby boomer generation many of whom are now into their senior years and so struggle getting in and out of a normal height car. This is a growing sector of the market for car manufactures.
Pistonhead is not the target market at all.
And yes it does look hideous.
