Passing a line of cars in lane 3 on the M25 near Heathrow. Go to pull in as normal, and a bike has appeared in my nearside blind spot.
Only reason I didn’t have him off was his quick reach for the horn. I get the idea of using a bike to beat the traffic when it snarls up, but to power up the inside of live lanes of twilight bleary-eyed rush hour traffic travelling in the rain at 50mph you must have a death wish.
Be careful out there everyone. And always think ‘Does that car know I’m here’
This is your fault. You shouldn't be driving if you are not able to know what every human is doing within a 100 mile radius of your location and adapt for it. You shouldn't have allowed it to rain or get dark either.

You need to understand just how wrong you have been.

And as for concentrating on the road ahead. You need to stop that. Always be looking out the back of the car. Always.

I hope you've learned your lesson but I'm sure many other PHers will be along to inform you that you are wrong and have done something very bad and are a disfunctional human.

I will admit to having nearly taken a motorcyclist out a couple of weeks ago.
It was 8pm (so dark) it was pissing down and it is a pretty st junction (getting my defence in first lol)
I was turning right out of a junction, two lanes of traffic from the right, 2 lanes coming from the left, a set of lights 30-40 yards away (to my left) with a another set of lights a couple of hundred yards further away.
Nothing coming from my right, some stationary cars at the further set of lights nothing coming round from the near set of lights (as far as I could see) I had a last look, it seemed clear and I set off. Just as I got to the middle of the road I caught a glimpse of something in my peripheral vision to my left and jumped on the brakes. I stopped just in time to give the biker room to go around the front of me.

Yep, but it's also daft to position yourself in someone's blind spot, especially when it's dark and wet.
And how do you know what every other car's blind spot is?
If you can't work out where the blind spot is, then only position yourself in positions which you know aren't blind spots

If the OP is changing lanes, it's up to him to make sure it is safe to carry out that manoeuvre - that's how the law will see it.
If the motorbike is undertaking a vehicle which is already overtaking another vehicle and trying to squeeze into an already occupied lane then I would argue he also needs to make sure that it is safe to carry out the manoeuvre; but irrespective of the legal position, it doesn't help much if you're dead.

Can't be bothered to read all the replies, but my take on it :-

1. If traffic was really heavy 40mph ish in all lanes bike filtering through at 50mph this shouldn't be unexpected and nothing wrong with it.

2. If traffic not heavy lane 3 empty except the OP overtaking, bikers a moron.

3. If 1 was the case then did OP indicate that he was going to pull in or just go for it? If he was indicating bikers a moron for going up the inside, if he wasn't indicating he should have been it'd prevented the whole scenario if the bikers wasn't a moron.

I wonder how many motorway accidents are caused by people doing manoeuvres into others blind spots? Either pull in ahead or behind a car on the nearside lane. Not in that little area just behind another drivers head.
