We've put Mark (IN51GHT) out of his misery now. laugh

Upper chassis weighs 288kg. Awesome considering the design target was <400kg!

clap
Since its so much under target will you have to ballast up to get the balance right? Reason for thinking this is that most of the power is being used to push air out of the way, not the mass of the car.
Nah. Extra 112kgs of fuel so they can wind the wick up a bit further...........just in case they need it.

Paul

PS. I'll ask the dumb question. Why is it being cooked? Something to do with the bonding agent?

It is. They are bonding and riveting it together, as I'd of thought the Cherrymax rivets and the bonding may not be up to the job if only one was used to stick the chassis together.

I've found the website is full of fascinating stuff, and I regularly go on there to read new articles that are published frequently.

The CAD had already highlighted that it would be under target before build started, so balance has mostly already been calculated.

IIRC the "materials - holes + rivets + glue" equation came out at 286kg so it shows how accurate the CAD is!

The physical weigh was mostly for confirmation and for an exact figure to be quoted later.

Who got too enthusiastic with the glue then? smile

....AND HOW GOOD THE DESIGNER IS!!!!!!

The rivets are strong enough on their own, the adhesive adds stiffness to the structure.

Nope climbing through an "assault course" (table & chairs laid out to make a maze & tunnels) wearing firefighters clothes, helmet & full BA with the visor blacked out so you were doing it blind. Then at the end assembling some of the hydraulic lifting rams that may be used to steady the car in a rescue situation.

But won't it be running on a big, big, huge, massive, empty, nothing else around piece of land - during day light hours???
I know, I know - it's elf'n'safety.

Well done for making it through - be good to be 'hands on' on the project from start to finish.

To be honest we all "made it through", the real test will come in Jan when we go to Gatwick for the proper fire training. Most of the fir crew will be their in dual roles. When the car is running I'll be fire & rescue crew, when it's in the hanger I'll be part of the engineering crew, will be full on but I wouldn't have it any other way.

The conditions in the desert have been reported by all who go there as hot, dusty & generally bloody unpleasant, like you'd expect a desert to be, but much worse, so the gym work starts in earnest on Monday to make sure I'm in the best shape I can sensibly be in come 3rd quarter of next year.

Are you going to use standard furry dice on the record run or are you going for some cutting edge material?

No need to finish Bloodhound then. Everyone knows that the fastest car in the world is a hire/pool car.
