I suppose not the lightest thing in the world.
Was the material chosen for corrosion resistance or something like that?

It's an HTP Class 1 compatible material (e.g it won't go fizz when in contact with HTP)

Presumably all the plumbing for the HTP needs to be made of stuff with similar properties.

As do any tools we have made that will contact parts that will touch HTP, all other tools have to be passivated.

Excuse my ignorance but is the stuff explosive and require tools unlikely to create sparks or transmit static?

Rocket fuel must have been part of a chemistry lesson I missed at school.

Conventionally speaking an "explosion" is a rapid release of chemical energy, which (normally) requires a fuel source and an oxidiser. In conventional explosives, different chemicals are combined to provide these items in the correct ratio, but hybrid rockets use a "solid" fuel and a liquid oxidiser, and in this case, this is High Test Hydrogen Peroxide (<<<<the oxidiser bit clue is in the name ;-)
Now, chemical bounds keep this oxygen linked to the hydrogen under most normal (room temp) conditions, making this a relatively safe working system (although if it becomes super critical it can get nasty). However, as it is a strong oxidiser, any thing that can come into contact with HTHP must be very low re-activity to avoid being attacked by this highly aggressive chemical, hence all fluid transfer / handling systems needing to be made of materials like high grade stainless steel etc.

The hybrid rocket system uses a specific catalyst to cause the HTHP to dis-associate into it's seperate molecules, a process that also releases a lot of heat energy, warming up the oxygen stream, and helping light the solid (polymer) fuel in the rockets combustion chamber

Great idea,
Just bought one for my Nephew, very confusing about the XXXX'S, I still filled in the fields with his home address rather than xx's as I couldn't see workout how I would get the certificate. Not sure where the cert goes, him or me via my paypal details.

It has been dry sumped yes, but that's about it.

BTW, that looks excellent with the Leaper large on the side! Perhaps the RR logo needs to get bigger too? Or are the sponsors logo's scaled to their investment? (how much is an EJ200 again? ;-)

I cannot say I am impressed with the colour scheme. Why such random clashing colours? Is this a result of a colour blind committee?

Such a spectacular project deserves something properly considered from a design perspective.

Looking at the forehead wrinkles and expressions, they are not sure it's going to fit!

Hope his hand is not still in that glove..........

PS. I love the fact that many of those working on this awesome project are from a similar era to me.

How easy (or not) is it to get a look around this project in person or as part of a group?

I would expect a donation is required but do you have to be a (dubious) 'celeb' to get an invite.

I know you have been doing presentations at events but there is nothing like looking at the real thing.
