How do the aerodynamics work on this? Is it possible that it could try and 'takeoff'?

Not if we've got our (quite complicated" maths correct.

If it's something you're interested in learning more about, there's a brilliant book called Ignition! by John Clark which can be found online: http://library.sciencemadness.org/library/books/ig...

Clark was a US chemist working on rocketry and wrote his book in the late '60s. It's very readable (ie not a text book although there is a fair bit of chemistry in there) even for a lay audience. HTP is an interesting fuel although it's actually been quite unpopular outside of the UK.
Thanks, fantastic link! Great thread too, very interesting to skim through the last few pages on a quiet day at work. biggrin

Just found this thread - absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much to IN51GHT and others for your input! I've been following the project with interest for a while now - I even paid to have my wife's name on the tail as a Christmas present a few years ago, although at the time we weren't married so her name is now wrong. hehe

With regard to those beautiful HTP pump parts that you've had delivered, for instance, are these manufactured in the UK or elsewhere? Just curious!

Manufactured in the UK of course.

There's a new diary piece from our driver - http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/blog/andy-green%E2%80...

If you want a laugh, try the first few pages of Chapter 6 about CTF -- yes that's chlorine trifluoride, which he says will set fire to pretty much anything including sand, asbestos, water, and test engineers...

Is there some photo trickery going on here or do you have two press brakes?

Hrmm.

I wonder if Hornby (airfix's owner) would be interested in sponsoring the project in return for this sort of thing...

I suppose it might depend on the makers of the current models being agreeable, if they have the rights.

Presuably he'll be given the use of a V8 F-type to get used to the characteristics of the HPTP pump on Bloodhound.

Hi All, but specially to IN51GHT

Fascinating stuff here. Took two days to read through all 64 pages of it. After that, I though of a pet-project of my own, based on my personal interests and expertise, only to discover you guys have done it already: a computer simulation/game of the 1k mph run.

Noticed that you've got great support (from Dr. Kenji Takeda), but unfortunately the simulator (because of the hi-fidelity hardware controls/displays) is a one-of-a-kind (I was envisioning a downloadable one).

Anyway, great project, and thanks for all this openness.

PS.: if my idea is still acceptable (a 'fan-made' simulator), I'd love to discuss it. BTW, I'm a computer science professor, with special interest and experience in physics for racing games (and a petrolhead as well).

PS2.: not being British, I have to ask: having lived in London counts?

Greetings from Brazil,
Erick
