Excellent news, it's a credit to the design engineers drink
Thanks. The upper chassis was my baby.
Who designed the installation jig/rig? Looks like it was about 3" too short judging by the bits of box section and g clamps........ ;-)
That's my sort of problem solving!

Paul

Can't wait to come and see her in the flesh in May. smile
That's as a result of the correct EJ200 layby stand not being with up currently, the one we are currently using is an RR build shop stand. The correct stand is en-route, but we really need to crack on with the build.

Saw this product and thought of you

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgwmuZuJ02I

I suspect you already know about them but they might prove useful at 1000mph.

Thanks.

I have used them a lot in the past on non racing projects, normally on a racing car I'd call up a k-nut with integral washer.

Having finally watched the Chris Harris video about Bloodhound, very excited to see how it (she?) performs. The level of detail is extremely impressive.

Apologies if this has been asked before, couldn't see anything related. But the design and vision of the project as a whole, is it led and directed by one person (Richard Noble I presume) or more by committee?

Where has the experience of the team as a whole come from mainly - aerospace?

Chief engineer is Mark Chapman, Richard is the sole director & brings in much of the money.

The design is directed by the small group of engineers, who work well as a team. we are from aerospace & motorsport backgrounds.

I also have vaguely related questions to that ^.

How did/does the design process work? What was the brief?

When was the inception of the idea, how long ago?

And how finalised was the design before the build started - would you say you had a design firmly locked down, and now you are simply building what was engineered and documented?

OR - is the design more fluid, developing over time? And what you are building now is more of a prototype?

Also interested to know what software and systems are being used to manage the design and build - What CAD systems, and is there any form of product lifecycle management being used?

Thanks!

(Vehicle design engineer, nothing as exciting as this though!)

I guess the brief was:
1) Make a car that goes fast
2) Andy needs to survive driving it
3) No, faster than that.
4) Nope faster still. Yes you can use a jet
5) And a rocket
6) And its got to do be turned around and run again in under an hour.
7) Ok more than one rocket.

That's a pretty well running team for things to run smoothly and keep making progress.

What on Earth are you all going to do afterwards? Be a few generations before anyone can challenge this record.

I have no idea & that genuinely worries me.

By being successful we effectively make ourselves redundant....... anybody looking looking for a motorsport design engineer in 2016????

I would have thought McLaren would have a need for you. . .going on their F1 progress currently.

I'd certainly start watching more F1 if they started strapping EJ200's to them.

I imagine it'll be pretty good on the CV!

Regarding the upper chassis, is there going to be an inside skin to smooth the airflow into the jet intake?

There is a large duct that we've designed, manufactured using resin infusion molding & tested:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3ZDkGKoliI

Are/were Lego sponsors.

Those two red 'bricks' look rather detrimental to the aerodynamics though.
