Can't imagine why. The conversation probably went a bit like this:

Bloodhound: We need some more money. Interested?

Jaguar: Hmm, bit strapped for cash. How much?

BH: £<big number> and some F-Paces, but you'll get to keep your logo on the car etc.

J: Crikey, we can't afford that. How about £<small number>?

BH: Well, we're talking to another manufacturer who really want their logo on the car. They want to give us £<big number>

J: Oh, OK. Guess we'll be getting our V8s back then?

BH: Hell no, we definitely want to keep your lovely V8 as re-engineering for something else would be very expensive at this stage. Could you help with that?

J: Well, how about you keep the V8s, we'll keep supporting them and in return we can stay as a sponsor, save a bit of face yeah? Deal?

Dunno why Mr. Ecclescake couldn't have dipped into his petty cash for support it. Oh, hang on, he’s got a couple of brain dead useless daughters to support. Silly me!! Oh, hang on a minute, they don't need it anyway. They've just got £500M richer because daddy's flogged of a bit of F1 to the yanks!!!

No much point being the richest corpse in the churchyard. Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg seem to be trying !!

JLR are reasonably cash-rich at the moment, but I'd say that's probably about right.

So much for promoting industry, innovation and engineering...

I totally understand why, and appreciate that there was no alternative, my criticism is of British industry and government, not of the project in any way. I wonder what's in it for them.

I'm really surprised that no large UK companies could come up with more funding, it's a relatively piddlingly small amount.

I guess the risk of major failure is offputting?

If it was all being branded ' London taxis international' would it look more British? That's about how British jlr are in reality, just Indian rather than Chinese

In my personal opinion, with no knowledge on the subject other than my own assumptions, I think this is a great way for Geely to increase their brand awareness within the UK & I would not be at all surprised if they start to sell in the UK within a few years.

Whilst it is disappointing that a British owned firm hasn't stumped up the cash, the main thing is that at last Bloodhound should have the money to complete this amazing project.

Well done to Geely for providing the funding, I know little of them other than the fact they also own Volvo, but in terms of brand awareness, they'll certainly get positive vibes from me.

As for JLR, tut tut...

So who’ll be on the bandwagon when they do break 1000mph, but nowhere to be seen at the moment?

Nobody as once we've done 1000mph we pack the car away for good.

Once we break the record next year it will be interesting to see who want's to come on board when we prove credible.

Once it has done the runs you're going to have to hand back the jet engines anyway aren't you? I seem to remember they're on loan.

is there no ongoing 'tour' of the successful project once it achieves it's aims? or will it just be parked as a static display somewhere!

I'm thinking more of the 'pat you on the back' crowd who always pop up once something epic has been successfully completed, without any help or assistance from them when it was needed. Politicians are usually very adept at this.

Agreed. It's a bit shabby there, but it would be nice to see it next door to Thrust 2 and Thrust SSC.
