I got a reminder today that it's 7 years since I bought a set of the worlds fastest cufflinks.
Ha! 5th of Dec for me, courtesy of CallMeLegend wink
Er yeah, sorry about that.
Me three on the cufflinks - and no apology necessary!

Yep, I wasn't looking for an apology. I think they're great and the story behind them is still being written, albeit season 3 is suffering from a lack of new ideas.

I've been thinking about this a lot recently.

Jim Ractcliff, he's one of the few people I can think of who would possibly be interested

Unless it’s electric or hydrogen I can’t see anyone having an interest.

I've been reading the 'latest' news about this project on their Facebook page. I notice that despite being on the search for funding and a new driver, they haven't posted in November 26th, and haven't responded to any of the 21 comments on that post. In fact, they haven't even noticed that a spammer has hijacked the thread with links to inappropriate content.

I think this tells us everything really: even the owners have lost interest.

I have mixed feelings on it. It was exciting when the project was launched, but more than a decade later, should we still be bothered about burning fuels in order to go faster? After all, Britain already holds the record!

They could burn the superdooper green jet fuel, tenuous but being the green LSR is probably the best bet for restarting it.

Bloodhound was on the end of Gogglebox last week, peoples reactions just about summed up the world's view on this project now, and their attitude towards pushing boundarys.

Largely "why bother", "what's the point" & "aren't there better things to spend £12m on".

What's the point of watching 24 millionaire drivers race around in circles 23 times each year? Bloodhound requires about 0.5% of the F1 worldwide income to make a Landspeed Record Attempt. Does anyone have a spare begging bowl available?

Hire someone from Gogglebox to drive it, or tell Musk that Zuckerdroid wants to buy the project and then he'll burst a vein getting in first.

A land speed record to achieve what? There is no purpose to it, it’s not the fastest hydrogen car or the fastest electric car so why does anyone want to see one thing go faster than the last thing years ago?

rofl

Plenty of food records out there at your local pub and diner that draw more youtube hits than this lot ever will. Or probably have.

F1's a business -- those 20 (there are 10 teams of 2 drivers, hopefully will be 11 teams when Andretti joins) are paid to drive, the sport is cash-generating via track hosting fees, sponsors, and (primarily) through TV/streaming deals from paying viewers.

If you could find a way to make land speed racing into a pay-per-view event and charge Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality for the privilege of hosting the runs, you could probably make it work the way F1 does.

But I bet you can't.

Now that would be an interesting one, fastest electric car record.

The F! circus could finance that as a side event, and I'm sure could make a profit for it with worldwide TV coverage from it.

Are you sure enough to invest £12 million of your own money?
