One of them is coming with a Devo 7E (so, USBable into a sim). Both helis are coming with lots of spares!

I find flying a 4ch a total doddle, but I also know from what I've read that FP is a different ballgame from CP.

As you were folks!

Apologies - never saw a reply. Jules told me to use Stephen Marjoram's pics from Flickr, and like I say, I owe you a big thanks for giving me the idea to write about it.

CraigyMC - thanks, have fixed that typo too.
No bother. By the way, I'm pretty sure that while Bloodhound has a single EJ200 in it, the project itself has three of them: two runners and one to be used/cannibalised for spares. The engines have backing from the engine company Rolls Royce, this itself is against Rolls' usual policy: an exception has been made because of how Bloodhound is going about things. The engines themselves are from the development program (of the Eurofighter Typhoon), and the two runners have very limited useful life left in aircraft terms - not enough to be operationally useful. If not used for Bloodhound, they would otherwise be simple museum pieces, so the UK MoD has loaned them to the project.

In Bloodhound terms, the time left on them is sufficient for their purposes.

The version of that story I heard was that the team asked RR, RR asked the government, government said no. Bloodhound asked again, RR asked again and the government said okay then you can have it but you need to run an educational outreach program at your cost. Bloodhound said and the program was so popular that that RR gave them 3 engines instead of one.

Given that I heard that from the educational team though I'll take it with a huge pinch of salt! hehe

Ive never flown fixed pitch, (except for aircraft, never flown a plane with a VP prop). Align 450 and 500 in the hanger.

Back to faster things though!

Carbon jet intake duct strain gauged in preparation for the forthcoming pressure test. The wires will be potted in finally once the test is complete.

Does anybody think that air intake would look a bit OT, or could I get away with one that size on the Ultima??

It's probably an age thing, but who is Lisa Rogers? Is she famous/infamous or just a fast car nut? I can't be bothered to 'Google' her name.

Still can't get over the size of that air intake....

The progress looks great so far, its all coming together - can't wait to see the finished vehicle (I have seen the mock-up up close a few times now).

Final drilling of the upper chassis has started in preparation for bonding/riveting. Taking the 3/32" holes out to 5/32".

And the assy drawing for the issued fin parts is under way.

Which ones of all those lovely skin pins are mine (after I have made a donation) when you have finished with them.
I plan to use them on the Rolls Royce Meteor Special when I get time to progress things.

No rush. I just love the quality of work we are luckily able to witness.

we are looking at various ways of 'disposing' of the skin pins when we are done.

We have (half jokingly) suggested that people could pay say £10 to install 2 rivets & get a certificate & the pins that were in the holes.

I'd be in the queue for that. (But, with a non critical part if you want to make a return run within the hour).

It's at the joint of two stringers. Not to be drilled yet.

Fascinating stuff, thanks for the explanations.

It's incredible how straight all the lines are too with no obvious jigs or rigs to line it all up. I presume there must be a very accurate measuring system that is always out of shot.
