There is some news from Bloodhound, sadly not of actual sponsorship.

They aim to make it "net carbon zero"

I was only wondering what happened to this project a few days ago. Last I heard they had done the higher speed testing in SA and had a new owner with funding, and just needed to strap a couple of rockets on to go for the record I thought?

!
The new owner fulfilled his promise of getting it to SA for high speed testing.

What condition is it in? Unless they've done something more than just shove it into a corner and throw a dust sheet over it, then it's probably just scrap.
It's been inhibited & is in Coventry Transport museum,

They should flog it to Rosco McGlashan in Australia for cheap and let him have a go at getting it moving. Although maybe the restriction what they are allowed to do with the EJ200 might stop it from being run by a non-UK concern.
Given the EJ200 comes with the gift of support from Rolls Royce and the RAF, I don't think it's likely to travel abroad for another company to take control.
There's also an echo... only alive is somebody funds it.

It would appear that after years of financial issues, bankruptcy, a last minute buyout, mothballing that today's exciting news is....they no longer have a driver!

I could see them re-engineering the engine system to make it 100% rocket. It might be a bit "well I wouldn't start from here", but the overall car design seems to have been proven fundamentally good.
That's simply not going to happen, period

The Green credentials" were the previous attempt at getting funding......how did that go. They are all over the place with their marketing/publicity, apparently jumping on whatever bandwagon will pay, it's a pure vanity exercise now.

Plan to revive Bloodhound UK land speed race car

Anyone got Guy Martin's telephone number?
He really is the perfect man for the job.
I know he's got a few quid behind him, but to drop 12 million of his majesty's finest pounds?
Sounds like they need to massage the ego of some billionaire thrill seeker and persuade them to finance the whole thing. £12m is nothing to them.
"Eloooooon!, come one Elon, you can become the fastest man alive.....................................................briefly"
That discussion, with Elon, happened years ago.....

Someone needs to pitch a land speed record documentary series to Netflix or Prime. £12m over a series is naff all for them...
Been done!

Jenson Button would be a good driver, and could bring in a significant amount of sponsorship money.

I suspect he's very happy is it is and has no appetite for it.

£12m and it runs.
Fairly straightforward to do it with an electric motor.
I argued this years ago in exec engineering meetings, along with the head of structures. The pair of us had talked about it for a couple of months prior to suggesting it. The powers that be said it was non starter, despite the fact we'd done some preliminary calcs, they simply said "it won't work". Obviously it would work, especially now given the increase in cell energy density.

I recall they’d already swapped the Jag V8 for another, more modest engine before the planned switch to electric?

Jaguar were an initial sponsor, but that didn’t last until the SA shakedown so I think it had been replaced by then.
Other way round IIRC.

The Jag engine replaced something else, possibly a Cosworth F1 engine.
The CA2010 Cosworth lump was replaced by the AJ133 V8 Jag engine, neither of which were particularly well suited to the task, but when you are being offered them for free, you take what you can get.

Fundamentally any ICE unit is unsuitable, you have to get supersonic air in, slow it to manageable speeds, which heats it up, so you also have to cool it before the ICE gets to use it. Then you have the issues of dealing with exhaust gasses, so you are looking for the lowest pressure area in the under floor so perforate to have a suitable exhaust exit. Problem is these low pressure areas can move through the speed range.

Didn't you move on to the RR electric plane?

Seems a transferrable skill smile
Yep, took several speed records, now hanging from the ceiling of the Science Museum, London

Bloodhound was on the end of Gogglebox last week, peoples reactions just about summed up the world's view on this project now, and their attitude towards pushing boundarys.

Largely "why bother", "what's the point" & "aren't there better things to spend £12m on".

Ah yes, those fine examples of human ingenuity and ceaseless endeavour... sitting on their arses in front of the TV passing judgement on people actually out doing something.

You're probably right that it's reflective of most people's view... but that just shows what a sad, stupid world we're living in.
Is it endeavor any more though or just a vanity project? To me it's time has been I gone, the world is a very different place even to 2017 when it ran in the UK.

Skimmed it.

This could be "quality journalism" by a Sun subeditor or not, either way Ron's got someone to punch in the chops.
Ron didn't design the car, he was the aerodynamisist. There was a small, capable team designing the car
