Captainawesome, I sold my M3 and followed it with IX FQ340. I thought ride comfort in normal use was similar, but the M3 obviously felt more refined with the interior, noise levels and engine note, but I am differentiating between comfort and suspension travel to keep tyres on the tarmac. The M3 (mine was on 19" Continentals and had 7000mile old suspension when I got it) would bounce over the wicked roads near Knockhill which I used to adore, but whilst I am only 6ft tall my head would hit the headlining and the tyres would leave the ground on this road, even without sport mode I couldn't maintain a steady throttle. Evo IX, Subaru on P1 suspension, both on 17" tyres could take the same humps and make them entertaining. Golf V GTI struggled too on 18s, Octavia vRS my wife had was fine on its 17s. B5 RS4 with less power than the Subaru had to back off, and 993 would fall through its rear suspension and ground (!) where the Subaru could take a hump flat out. Bottom line is I am very suspicious of suspension travel in any sporty German car I have driven or seen driven hard over bumpy roads. I cannot generalise to all, I did find E60 M5 and 335i I tried were much better in this respect than my old M3 which was memorably atrocious. Does this clarify or do you not drive bumpy roads in the same way?
Clarified. My M3 is on slightly lower eibach springs but still doesn't feel as hard as the Evo on standard suspension. Maybe the shocks are shot :P

ETA How is you GTR on bumpy roads??? Not been in one yet but I assume it's fairly stiff.

GTR was a concern for this, but it is great on back roads in the sense that the tyres stay in contact and it doesn't get unsettled by midcorner bumps like I feared it would, but it makes no concession to comfort, although is improved by ditching run flats no end. Initially I was disappointed in the traction in the wet after the Evo on Michelins and Subaru on Goodyear, but moving the GTR away from run flats is a transformation also in wet weather traction, but it still needs care even with the traction control on as it is long and has a lot of torque going to the back. In many ways it combines the best of the M3 and Evo and from your profile I would suspect you would love it...

I would love one but I drive a lot on tiny country roads and they are huuuuge cars. I doubt it would get up my very skinny drive. That and SWMBO would have a fit if she came home to find one parked outside.

When they go out to a restaurant for lunch some people need more than the basic price menu served with a glass of tap water - and recognise that the larger bill is still a bill for "lunch".
Pointlss analogy. How many people HAVE to eat a meal at in restaurant on a regular basis to maintain their warranty?

A service is the list of jobs that the manufacturer says should be done at regular mileage/time intervals. It does not include replacing consumables or repairing damage either during or outside of those intervals, that is simply maintenance. If I smash my car into a wall, and have the damage repaired at the same time as an oil change, would you really consider the body repair work part of a service?

My car isn't an m3. It's a new shape 3 m-sport with 19 inch wheels. It came with run flats which I dislike. They're 225 40 front and 255 35 rear. If I'm switching out all 4 is it worth considering a change or should I just stick to these sizes?

I've personally stuck to stock sizes. The common change is to go to 235/35 fronts as this gives you more options.

Some people try 265/30 on the rear but I don't see the point

That's the same as E46 M3 tyre sizes, I'd stick to the standard size. Well, no reason to change, imo.

At that price I'd rather spend a few £k more and get an E92 335i.
But they're fking ugly. The E46 is a great looking car.....still.

Ok thanks

Love tyres list 2 Goodyear asymmetric 2 in 255 35 19 with different fuel consumption and wet weather ratings (ignoring the 3rd run flat version). Are these different compounds?

One will be the updated tyre to get better label scores.

What's the deal with putting the same size wheels and tyres front and back. Is it worth a try. Will it make the back end a bit more lively.
