i also wonder why porsche gave the 991 turbo s a limited over boost function , when if i remember correctly , the 997 turbo s had a permanent over boost .

There's no such thing as 'permanent overboost'

around the saschenring , the 991 turbo s (on standard production road tyres) , was faster than both the mclaren spyder and coupe both with 625bhp (on slicks) , evo also run a test where the gt3 991 was faster than the mclaren , and Porsche claims the turbo s is faster than the gt3 on a track. On a twisty road the turbo s would disappear from the 12c , same with the f12 and aventador , the only performance advantage these cars have over the 911 is in a 1 mile drag race and unless you go to organised drag races , you're never gonna see the performance advantage over the 911 turbo.Sure they all sound better and are head turners , but its that attention and drama that makes people buy the 911 turbo in my opinion.
I simply don't believe the the road tyre/slick type statement you made.

It's not possible.

I think he meant that the attention and drama of the 12c is what makes the 991 a more sensible proposition. I can see his point if that's what he meant. I would feel a proper tool driving to the shops in a McLaren (or a 458 for that matter). Not so in the 991 IMHO.

I don't understand that thinking at all. You work hard, buy your dream car and then worry about other people's opinions and where you should use it.

fk that.

Actually neither do I. On a track not a lot will stay with a 12c ON SLICKS. I do know the test he is eluding to and he is right. the 991tts was faster than a LP700, 12C, SLS Black. But they were all on standard rubber...The 991 GT3 is faster than a 12c on track, the 991tts is a lot quicker on track than the GT3....So this track question is settled law as they say...the lack of a DIFF on track holds the 12c back, big time

With regard to the Q car point. A poster made the point that the TTS did not look special enough...is that not what a Q car is about

So what? Serious question. So what?
Car A is faster than Car B in conditions demarked by XYZ. It's only Top Trumps enthusiasts or pub bores who think that's important. Buyers don't care, the drivers the cars don't care. If they did then Aston wouldn't sell a single car, the Elise would have been a sales flop and the R8 would never have been lauded quite so vehemently.

Try to ignore your fixation with the stopwatch as its results aren't overly important when it comes to enjoying the experience of performance cars. Cars are so much more than parameters which can be measured in hundredths of a second and focussing on a such a narrow quality is missing the point of owning one.

Anyone else think referring to a 911 as a TTS makes it sound like an Audi... especially as Turbo S would make
more sense as TS? And that still sounds stupid.

So your issue here is editorial quality and accuracy? There are so many online publications which could be deemed more worthy of critique than a place catering to car nerds. You'd have more productive hunting attempting to straighten out the Daily Mail than worrying about what goes on in here. You'd certainly find more people who would care.

The reality is that in these donkey-cart "races", fractions of a second only matter at F1 level, where there are less variables.

fk that.
But it's all connected in the end. The 12c or the 458 or a Lambo would never be my dream car as I would not feel comfortable driving one. I like the (relatively!) stealthy image of the 911 and that's one of the reasons I buy them.

I enjoyed the video as usual, Chris knows how to make a good one. However no one buying a 991 turbo is looking at a 12C (glad they dropped the MP4 bit made it sound like a gun, plus it was long-winded). The only real competitors to a turbo are the lovely R8 V10 or the designed on an Etch a Sketch GT-R. If I had the money I'd probably be driving towards the Audi dealership because it has much more character than the others. It's a bit wide for B roads but to me it's a better looking Gallardo with a better interior and it's nearly 50K cheaper! S/Plus models aren't worth the extra unless you love track days.
