Looks great from the side but those large black grills at the front remind me of the RS3, I.E, crap.

That must be the special wheel buckling edition, the tyres look thinner than those on my city bike.

More good news for a great car... I'd pass on the visual upgrades though.

"Accelerate out of a bend more dynamically" is pure genius biggrin

I like that M235i, are they doing a powerkit for that as well? IIRC there is one for the 435i same engines?

Yep, both N55 but the M135i and M235i have a wee bit more power (the M235i has a fraction more than the 1er)

Speak for yourself, M135i as ugly as fk. This just looks a million times better. Well done BMW, 10 out of 10 from me on this.

Too shouty and those wheels are grim (I've seen them close up).

Part of the appeal of the "ugly" M135i to us is that it's very subtle.

Pre-chavved, only lacking an "M Power" badge on the rear.

Oh it's got one...

It really has. A good looking little car like a smaller 3 series coupe. With the options to make your car a bit different and sportier I think it's a winner if BMW don't get too greedy with the pricing of the car and options. A modern BMW 2002 perhaps and I don't think anyone with sight could buy a CLA instead! I'd rather have an A class to be honest and that's no looker from some angles.
The Audi A3 saloon is a bit steady but nice I still think this has the edge and I think it will be sportier to drive. Bit different to the 6/5 series where it's really a taste thing I personally prefer the 5 series to the 6 series but I can't really explain why. Perhaps like your favourite slippers it's the comfort of traditional BMW styling?! I wonder whether BMW deliberately made the 1 series face uglier just to stand out from the crowd or whether they will realise their 'mistake' and when the 2 series is launched the 1 series will get a facelift with a 2 series like front end. We'll see.

Optical tuning. Lol

It's still rather heavy around the flanks despite the lines and sideskirts.

That back end is just so anonymous and Korean/ Japanese. In fact it's more korean than most Korean cars nowadays.

I prefer the uglier 1er. At least that has more distinctiveness. This car looks a bit...dull.

Or you could just bypass that and go aftermarket, Birds offering an off the shelf Quaife differential for the 1 Series fully fitted for a smidge under two-grand. Stands to reason this would fit the 2 Series too if your BMW dealer seems a little non committal about plundering the darkest recesses of the official accessories catalogue there is an alternative.

and loose your warranty when you drive out of the garage????

"Best 'til last though - yes there'll be an official mechanical limited-slip differential upgrade too. BMW talks euphemistically of "traction optimised distribution of drive torque" and an ability to "accelerate out of a bend more dynamically" but we all know what that means in reality..."

This doesn't necessarily mean a mechanical LSD to me. Couldn't this also be referring to an 'electronic LSD' using the wheel speed sensors/brakes?

My mate has a white 123d M sport with carbon mirrors, diffuser and ducktail spoiler and it looks almost identical to this. No bad thing as his 1 series looks lovely.

I think the 235i has the potential to be a proper hoon machine in the right hands.

This thing is gonna be too heavy. It's going to be over 1500 kilos (235i), so it is too heavy.

Why oh why have BMW gone all pre-chav with the black grills. Dear oh dear. White paint equally as bad, what happened to painting cars proper colours.
