I wouldnt fancy driving around Hellmand in one much.
^This. for Column inches, it's great fun.
Maybe for checkpoints as well for when you need to look tough. But if there is even a remote possibility of anyone shooting back, it's just a big moving olive green drab coffin
I don't think that it is intended to be used as a front line vehicle. I'd suggest it more for internal security.
What kind of internal security do you mean? shooting your own population? policing a G8 summit? either fit for purpose or death trap.

Indeed - Much cheaper for killing protesting students than a tank, time's are hard even for oppressive regimes, you know, they need to economise!

There's a big Military parade on in Romania (Bucharest) this Friday. Was probably made for this.
A bit of Romanian publicity for their only car manufacturing company.

Don't laugh at them though, They have a 911 turbo, Lotus Evora, Q7 and numerous other very nice police traffic cars in use. I've see them in action.

Not as backwards as you would like to think.

Of course you are right, it's black and white, if it can't stand up to a Rocket from an RPG then it's obviously useless...

I don't understand you, what situation is in need of a single fixed position fire support / suppression weapon on what is a flimsy marginal mobility base vehicle, as someone else said, 'shooting protesters'?

It's publicity that's all. For Dacia.

Something weirdly cool about the base spec Dusters. There is a white one in the work car park and it looks purposeful.

Definitely good value for money.

Beyond RPG and AK range it might be alright. If there roof-mount is a 12.7mm, which redefines the meaning of cover, then you only need worry about Dragunovs and old .303s...

If the remote could be operated outside the vehicle, would be okay. Park it down the road, and blast at students from the safety of somewhere armoured. Whilst having a cup of tea and a donut.

You are right though, why would you put a machine gun on top of an unarmoured vehicle, if you need to put that sort of firepower down you can assume they are likely going to be firing at you..

I would suggest that it could be a capable military vehicle, but not in a situation where you need a machine gun.

Why would you buy this when you can get a second hand Chieftain for the same money.
However, the gun would weigh it down and affect handling so go for the M135i instead.

/PHcliches

I think it's an excellent bit of marketing if that's what it is. If it's a genuine military vehicle then I can't comment really as my experience of military vehicles ends at watching helicopters at Dartmouth Regatta.

Internal Policing in countries that have problems with drugs gangs or terrorists? Mexico? Columbia

The use of converted civilian vehicles is hardly new. Plenty of countries have a much more limited budget for their armed forces. This isn't going to be equiping the British army any time soon, but a third world country that has a use for a lightly armoured scout vehicle on a very tight budget.

I think the gun is a bit silly, top heavy and gross, but the wheels HD suspension and beefed up skid plate might be nice to see in the general catalogue.
A friend has a Duster, it is a great vehicle.
